Thomas and Hester Gibson baptise several children from 1781 onward, all recorded on IGI.I have John Gibson born 1777 in Great Waltham as per 1851 census however there is no record of him on IGI.If anyone has access to PR,can you please check and see if John's baptism has been missed ?

Wendy,
It is John i am searching for, birth date is variable,he married in 1804.Thomas and Hester seem to be the only couple baptising children around this time.

Hi
Looking at the names in the entries, I wasn't sure that it was Hester, also a slight difference to the surname. I have found their marrriage in the parish records and it is a lot clearer to read.
Marriage at St Mary & St Lawrence, Great Waltham
Thomas Gipson (bachelor) & Easter Waldon (spinster) both of the parish were married by banns on 23 June 1770, both made their mark.
These are their earliest children - no sign of a John
Baptisms at St Mary & St Lawrence, Great Waltham
Anne, daug of Thomas & Easter Gibson, May 26 1771
Sarah, daug of Thomas & Easter Gibson, Aug 14 1773
Thomas, son of Thomas & Easter Gibson, July 30 1775
William, son of Thomas & Easter Gibson, April 16 1777
Joshua, son of Thomas & Easter Gibson, July 18 1779

Just had a look in the marriage records again.
Found a marriage for Joshua Gipson in 1803, one of the witnesses was William Gipson - so I think that confirms the surname (incorrect spelling for baptism entries)
Also found the 1804 marriage for John Gibson, all surnames are clear, so it would seem that John was not related to the Gipsons, it does say that he was of the parish at the time of marriage however that doesn't necessarily mean that he was born there.

Gibson and Gipson has been used for this family so the variation i can accept. The baptisms quoted are taken from PR or another transcription??

All names and dates are from the actual PRs of St Mary & St Lawrence church. I just thought it strange that Gipson is used for Joshua and William in 1803 and Gibson used for John in 1804, also there was not a witness at Johns wedding with a surname of Gibson or Gipson and as we can see from the PRs, some maybe even all of the Gipson children were in Great Waltham the previous year.

Kevin,
Who were the witnesses to John's marriage?
Thanks for your assistance.

Marriage entry from PRs
John Gibson of this parish bachelor and Ann Brand of the parish of Pleshey spinster were married by banns on 23 October 1804, both made their marks.
Witnesses were Frances Owers (made mark) & William Joyce (signed his name)
From Holy Trinity, Pleshey
Baptism October 12 1783, Ann daughter of Baniel & Susanna Brand
I have also found a baptism for Frances Owers in 1785 at Pleshey
Kevin
I have looked a few years after the marriages and Thomas, William and Joshua are all baptising children in Great Waltham so they are still in the village, can't find any children for John & Ann in the following few years at Great Waltham.

Kevin,
John and Ann's children were baptised in Little Baddow, hadn't previously had Ann's baptism.Wonder where John came from,1851 census indicates he was born Great Waltham and his death is recorded there? Is it possible a baptism was not made?
Appreciate your help.

Folks,
This week i was given transcriptions of 19th century letters exchanged between Gibsons in Essex and Australia, and to my dismay the line i was pursuing is WRONG.Some letters referred to uncles and aunts of my great grandmother who i did not have in my tree and further checking has linked to a Gibson family in Little Baddow.Problems with that line already but will post later.
Thanks all,
Eric
