-
Southern Ireland and the UK was all part of a free travel area at that time, so there are no passenger lists.

There were several companies working out of Dublin at that time but I am sorry I don't know where to source information on them; The Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. was one

There were probably a lot of companies but passenger lists weren't kept.

I think the best known ferry here to run across the Irish sea from Dublin would have been the Mail Boat. Ran from DĂșn Laoghaire to Hollyhead, where the train to Euston station, London waited to meet it.. or more accurately to meet the most important cargo i.e. the mail.
As far as I know it was was run by a subsidiary of British Rail ?
I'm sure there were ferries to Liverpool also, but any of them would have been near to a railway to allow travel on to Morecambe.

There was a list & photographs (security because of the war), There was something on the radio on Talking history on newstalk about it about 2 years ago. I contacted the lady on the show to see if my Gran Father was on the list & he was not :( , If I remember right she was based in Maynooth university, hope this helps Gary

Under the Defence of the Realm regulations there were immigration controls between Ireland and GB from 1939 till around 1947. You needed a national identity card or passport to travel on all routes (including those from Northern Ireland). However, as Aghadowey has said, there were no passenger lists (even then) and no records of the passengers exist today.

thank you for the replys.
so its not possible to find out wich year my family arrived in lancaster/morcombe ?
-
There will not be any records based on shipping. You might find them in the local voters register and work out roughly when they arrived from that.
-
Sometimes it's possible to deduce approximately when a family moved to a new location by checking places of birth on census returns. E.g. say the father, mother and two eldest children give their place of birth as Ireland, and the 3rd child has a place of birth of Lancaster/Morcombe - then you can say they arrived sometime between the births of their 2nd and 3rd child.

Unfortunately the dates in this case are too recent for census returns - the 1939 Dublin record is from an Electoral register.
As Elwyn mentioned you may be able to locate the adults on the local Electoral Register. As far as I know you usually need a specific address to be able to search these records ..
