I am trying to find my grandfathers WW1 MEDALS 1914/1918 . He was MICHAEL O`BRIEN , I don`t have his service number. If anyone should come across these could you possibly let me know . I have tried various sites but no luck . I believe they were sold by a member of the family ,so an antique dealer may be the best bet .
Thanks

Hi EP,
It maybe better to give some more info regarding your grandfather, i.e. date and place of birth, this helps to choose the correct one. Did the member of the family who sold them, photograph them first, and is there any idea where and when he sold them. This may help to locate in a specific country.
Tom
NB A search on Ancestry's WW1 Service Records, 1914-1920 returned 1323 results, most of them had place of birth and year of birth. I do not have sub to Ancestry but members who have will need as much info as possible.

Tom ,
I should have given that information ! My grandfather`s name was Michael O`brien, b August 13th 1896. Dunbar , East Lothian ,Scotland . I suspect he would have been awarded the medals that were given to most soldiers in those days . I have a photo of him ,he would be about 18 , but not sure of the uniform , except he had tartan trews ,and I think the hat was a Gengarry ?
I am sorry to say that the person who sold them is now persona non grata ! So no contact is possible.
He lives in Edinburgh so the chances are he sold them possibly to an antique shop, of which there are dozens , if not hundreds
Hope this helps

It might be worth a post on the Armed Forces board on Rootschat or moving this post to that board ?
Can you also post the photo you have ?
I'm sure some of our military experts will be of help

Doesn't look like KOSB. I'm going to suggest Cameronians, until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

I can only find one Michael O'Brien listed to a Scottish regiment, it says Scottish Rifles, Which i believe were the Cameronians, his number would be 14432 and was entitled to the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, I also looked up Scottish rifles and O'Brien using the national archives for the medal card and it only returned one, the link is here
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=4615076&queryType=1&resultcount=23
The medal card is available to download for £2
I hope this helps

Rac1473,
Thank you for looking up this information ,it seems to be the right one. This is the first intimation of his time in the Army ,apart from his photo . Hoping someone will spot his medals ,I know it is a long shot ,but fingers crossed .
Much obliged
