Where did the marriage take place? England? are you looking at www.freebmd.org.uk?

Where did you find the record you mentioned in original post?

Added-
FreeBMD gives the marriage registration as Apr.-June 1890 in Chorlton district, volume 8c page 953. Since there are only 2 grooms listed but 3 brides it's likely that the Elizabeth on the page was known by both Simpson and Brooks (perhaps she was a widow). Ordering the certificate will show her details and hopefully clear up some of the confusion for you.

Use LancashireBMD.

ROYLE   Luther   m SIMPSON   Elizabeth   @ Ardwick, St. Silas

Use LancashireBMD.

ROYLE   Luther   m SIMPSON   Elizabeth   @ Ardwick, St. Silas

As I mentioned in earlier post it's possible that Elizabeth Simpson and Elizabeth Brooks are the same person. Getting the marriage certificate would confirm or rule this out.

Look at the GRO pages from which the names are indexed.
Matilda should be page 963. That leaves two grooms and two brides.

Elizabeth Simpson and Elizabeth Brooks are NOT the same person. FreeBMD doesn't give alternate names unless the writing was poor.

In any case, the parish copy should be available somewhere for less than the cost of a GRO copy.

Looked up both possible Elizabeths on the 1891 census, and they're both 23, so that doesn't help :(

How do you do this?  Been on family search lots of times but didn't know you could look at original registers.
Thanks Marie

I'll try and explain but I'm not great at this!

www.familysearch.org
Browse by location - click on British Isles
Historical Record Collections - this gives a list of all collections - some say "Browse images" - just click on appropriate collection.
Others such as England, Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire do not say browse images but if you click on this collection then scroll down the page to "View Images in this Collection" the next line says "Browse through 332,814 images" - click on this and it will give a list of Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire. Click on appropriate county and up will come a list of the parishes - click on parish and it will give baptism, marriage or burial and dates covered. Not all parishes and not all years are covered but there are quite a few.
From the years covered e.g.  1887 - 1897 it will give no of images - this is where an educated guess comes in - divide the no of years by no of images and put in e.g. Image 150 - press enter and up will come a page of register with date - if too early try later and vice versa.

Can be long winded but practice helps and loads of free marriage certs with original signatures.

Good luck!
