Title: Cockburn Yetholm Edrom

Hi a quick question regarding any possible monumental inscriptions for either edrom or bunkle and preston.

I have an ancestor who died between 1825 and 1841 in yetholm, John Cockburn and I believe he was born in edrom or possibly bunkle and Preston. He was christened in edrom. Anyway there is no headstone for him in yetholm. Just a stab in the dark but thought he may be buried in a family plot in either edrom or bunkle and Preston.
Does anyone know if inscriptions exist and even better, if possible, does anyone know if his name appears in either, he was a blacksmith at primsidemill yetholm.

Hello - Borders Family History Society have recorded Edrom and Preston - haven't found any MI for John Cockburn.  Bunkle is being recorded so will try to look for John there

Thank you very much for your help elma. I know johns first wife was buried seperate from him in hownam, ROX. That's why I think he may be buried back in the parishes in Berwickshire I mentioned as he was almost certainly from there.

I know he remarried to a Frances Davidson so that might also help.

I have a George Cockburn born about 1812, at Edrom, variously described as a quarryman, a farm worker, a steward.  He married Elizabeth Brack, on 5 June 1834 at Ladykirk, had children named Alexander, Agnes & Elizabeth.  Let me know if these interest you.

Thank you very much for the info. I'm not sure to be honest if they tie in at the moment but one fact you stated might be relevant. One of John cockburns sons was a quarrymen and as you stated your George was a quarryman. This may not be important but I've only once came across a quarryman and it was johns son Peter. Who knows, I think my John had a brother called Peter from edrom who was a farm worker.
