Hi

http://www.scribd.com/doc/9653210/Carradale-Antler-196-January-2009
Is an article re: an unpublished family book by a descendant of Duncan Martin & Mary McCallum.

In part the article says:
Duncan MARTIN married at Achnasavil, Carradale to Mary McCALLUM
A Journeyman Shoemaker
Three children born in Achnasavil:
1: 1786
2:
3: 1791

Plus four, probably 5,  born at Torrisdale:
1: 1794
2: ~1797, Isabella*
3:
4: 1810, John
5: Angus (not baptised) probably born Torrisdale - A Fisherman in Dalintober, his link to Duncan & Mary proved by modern DNA test.

*Isabella, who married a crofter/fisherman, Duncan MITCHELL. She was 24 in 1821 (b abt 1797)

Perhaps this is a coincidence of names...... When you say mid 1800's, for your Duncan, are you talking about his birth?

There is a Duncan MARTIN in Otaki Cemetery, Plot 13783.
Age 62. This person would have been born circa 1849 if he died in 1911

Cheers

Did you find information on McInnes and Caroline Martin?  Duncan Martin (Shoemaker) and Mary McCallum were my gggg grandparents. I have an extensive family tree of their descendants.  I see a Caroline Martin descendant who had two husband's -- the first a McInnes and the next a Les Dixon, b. England. This Caroline (Carrie) Martin was the grand niece of Duncan Martin, d. 1911, Osaki, NZ.  She was the daughter of John Martin, b. 1884, first child of Duncan Martin, b.1865, and Caroline (Helen) Stewart. Duncan of 1865 was son of John Martin, b. 1839, son of John Martin, b. 1810, son of Duncan Martin and Mary McCallum who had their first of 8 children born in 1786 at Achnasavil.

My cousin, Angus Martin, Kintyre historian, author, poet, has a letter from Caroline's (Carrie) grandmother Caroline (Helen) which refers to Carrie's first husband, Malcolm McInnes, not feeling well. Angus suspects the letter must have been written in mid '30s.

Caroline's first husband did die young, so I'm sure Ev has it right: that Malcolm died in 1937, that Caroline was 3 in 1911 census -- it all fits!

I can't seem to reproduce Ev's results as haven't searched documents for at least 5 years -- very rusty.  Any help searching Scotland documents appreciated: I have about 20 credits left.  Thanks.

Thanks Ev:

So it appears clear that Caroline Martin -- b.c. 1908, Campbeltown, Argyll, SCO, d. 1982, Campbeltown; daughter of John Martin, b. 1884, Campbeltown; grandaughter of Caroline (Helen) Martin, nee Stewart -- first married Malcolm McInnes, b. 1902, Campbeltown, in 1927, Campbeltown,  and he died at age 35 in 1937, Campbeltown.

Then Caroline (Carrie) married  George Leslie Dixon, b.c. 1914, in 1941, Campbeltown. George died at age 82 in 1996, in Lochgilphead, Argyll.

No evidence of any issue from either spouse.

You can check the free birth index on SP for likely McInnes or Dixon children , can't mention them here as they could still be living.

HI, Looking at getting into contact with Daryl Martin re Duncan Martin,b.c.1765 Campbelltown, Scotland. Re new information concerning Angus Martin b.c.1809 and John Martin b. 1810. DNA testing was done with Daryl, Ian Martin (Aust.) & Angus Martin (Scotland) some years ago, and all matched. Just wondering where the reference to Duncan's occupation as Shoemaker was found and also 1776 original marriage register shows Duncan Martin, Shipmaster, & Mary McCallum, daughter of Archibald McCallum, Boatman were married on  26/4/1776.  Angus,b.c.1809 is my g.g.grandfather.
