Hi
Hoping everyone might be able to help here.
I am looking for the marriage records of Elizabeth Burberry and Amos Fellowes. Married – I think- in Conventry, Warwickshire somewhere around 1828-ish.
There are a few Elizabeth Burberry's in and around Conventry, however, I believe mine was born around 1807 to a John and Elizabeth, and that Amos was born around 1800 to a John and Mary.
Elizabeth and Amos had 2 children – a son Amos born in 1829 and a daughter Ellen born in 1830.
Elizabeth ended being convicted of three crimes and transported to Australia for life in 1832, at which time she brought her daughter Ellen with her, leaving behind her husband and son.
It is known that husband Amos was a weaver in Coventry around 1830. I can find no death records for husband Amos either.
I would be most grateful if anyone were able to point me to where I might be able to confirm the marriage of Elizabeth and Amos, and perhaps even the death of Amos?
The life of Elizabeth after her arrival in Australia has been quite well discovered (and that of her daughter). The descendants of her son Amos have been traced also.
Appreciate the help.
Cheers

I'm not sure that the information that Ellen's father was Amos is correct, even though Ellen listed it on her marriage record.
On the Colonial Secretries letter regarding children of some females who were working in the Parramatta Female Factory in 1833 to be admitted to the King's Orphanage, Ellen Fellows extract:
Ellen Fellows - born 22nd Augst 1830
Baptised at Coventry
Mother Elizth Fellows - Fanny (ship she was transported on)
Father James Fellows
Father information was probably provided by Elizabeth Fellows.
Ellen Fellows lists her father as Amos Fellows on one of her marriage records.
Amos Fellows born 24 Aug 1800 to John & Mary (White) Fellows in Nonconformist Registers of Coventry, England: Cowlane, formerly Jordan Well Baptist Church 1761-1837, pg 16. Also in the same source is listed the burial of Amos Fellows 26 Oct 1824, aged 24 years. Same church records probably indicates that Amos born 24 Aug 1800 died 26 Oct 1824.
My ancestor, Amos Fellows (b. 1829), lists on his marriage record that his father was William. However, the family story is that Amos was left, at age 3, with a tailor named Charles Ingram, when his mother (a widow or abandoned?) was caught stealing linen and shipped off to Australia with a younger sister. Since he was 3 when he was left behind, would he know his father's name? I can't find any record of Amos' birth which he lists on a later church record as Coventry, England. I'm still trying to link this Elizabeth Fellows to my Amos or find his mother.

I've come across the 1800's grave of John & Elizabeth Burberry at St Margaret's Parish Church cemetery in Ifield Village, Crawley, Nr Gatwick. England. Is that any help?

I know I'm catching up rather late with this thread, but I wonder if it might be useful to look at name spellings.
My direct ancestor, Joseph Holland Burbery was a younger brother of Elizabeth Burbery, who according to the records I have managed to access, was a widow at the time of transportation. Her dead husband was Amos Fellows.
You might want to try searching with the different family name spellings (Burbery instead of Burberry and Fellows instead if Fellowes).
Not a definite fix, of course. People could sometimes be a bit careless with spellings. I have another ancestor who was transported to Tasmania. His name spelling had been changed (by him or by officials, I don't know) to Burbury by the time he reached Van Diemen's Land. All his descendants to this day use that spelling.
The contrast between Elizabeth's life and that of her brother Joseph is striking. She was a mais and seamstress and apparently also a petty thief. Joseph and his brother Samuel were rich and highly respected rearers of Longhorn cattle. Joseph and his son (also Joseph) amassed enough wealth to allow the following two generations to live lives of idle luxury before the money finally ran out.
What did Elizabeth do, that she should apparently have been abandoned by her family?
Good luck.
