Would like to find out where he was in 1901 and 1911, if he married and had children, if so it would be very helpful to find someone with knowledge of the family.
-
According to what you posted earlier on another thread he wasn't in 1901 or 1911 Irish census- have you searched for him in Scotland for those years?
came across your post, just wondering if the James Rainey you have could be the one I have been searching for, my James Rainey/Rennie was born in Ballycastle County Antrim in 1876, he was from a Presbyterian family of farmers, he is not on the Ireland Census of 1901 or 1911
-
No, I haven't looked on the scottish census, at the moment I don't have subs for ancestry.com or scotland people.
-
Many libraries subscribe to Ancestry Library Edition where you can view transcripted details from Scottish census up to 1911 (1911 only available on Scotland's People).

I'm trying to find out more about My Father's Grandfather James Rainey.
-
He was most likely Presbyterian 80% of the probables were, 20% were RC.....
-
Hi 'lib 58'
as James was your great grandfather he obviously got married - so who to, and when and where ?
Do you have the marriage cert with his father's name and occupation ?
Do you know where he was on 1901 or 1911 ?
I found this unusual one on familysearch - it's unusual in that there is no mention of the mother, only the grandmother - I'm not sure if this is a mistranscription or not though

I have been researching this line of Rennie/Rainey from Ballycastle, could not find James born abt 1876 on 1901 or 1911 census, but did find passenger records that might be him;-
1907 James Rennie birth Ireland 1877 arrived Vermont
1929 James Rennie birth Northern Ireland 1876, departure Belfast, arrived Quebec
but he was single, occ Farming and going to YMCA in Vancouver.
-
Have you tried searching 1910 U.S. census or 1911 Canadian census? 1920 U.S. Census?
Vermont is not a place James Rennie would have sailed to from Ireland- have you looked for records of him leaving the U.K. and then arriving in Canada? or U.S.?
-
the 1907 passenger record is for a border crossing from Canada to U.S, I have looked on relevant census's but could not find him.
-
Have checked passenger records for him leaving from Scotland,England and Ireland but no result

I have a James Rennie, born County Antrim about 1877 (the family were from around the north coast)
Father: William John Rennie, born 1851
Mother: Margaret Kennedy Rennie, born 1847, died 1908
The family moved to Scotland for a time, where James married and remained.
In 1897 James married Margaret Brennan. They had eight children that I can identify.
He is found in the 1901 census, age 24, living at 14 Cardwell Road, Gourock, Scotland.
Died in Scotland about 1920.
James had several siblings; most of those returned to Ireland, as did his parents.
I have other information on this branch, if interested please reply.
