Title: Wiggins of Hexton
Post by: waterfall on Thursday 12 April 12 19:38 BST (UK)
2/10/1784 John Wigins of Hexton, Herts married Hannah Arnold by licence at Barton in The Clay, Beds.
Would like to know if any children baptised at Hexton and a death for John, have death of Hannah in 1851.
Johns age on licence given as 34 years.

Any help much appreciated, Susan

Was john still alive on either the 1841 or 1851 census?

Ignore that - he would have been in his 90's by then!!

Hannahs age at death given as 84. On marriage licence given as 25.

I am sure as to Hannah but John......need to go to HALS but not an option at this moment in time.

Hi Susan

I'm not sure if this is your John Wiggins but there is a burial for a John Wiggins at Hexton St Faith 6th March 1814 aged 65. His abode was Hexton & his occupation was a Labourer.

His age at death makes him born c1750 which fits in with an age of 34 in 1784 if that is the marriage date & not his birth date.  :)

Morning Maddie,

That looks a good candidate as John was aged 34 in 1784 which ties in pretty well with his burial date.

If it is the one (need to do a bit more digging at Hexton if and when) then it confirms my suspicions as to Hannah.

Do you know if they had any children?

Many, many thanks for your help with what was a brick wall.!!!

Morning Carole and Maddie

have been checking out those baps you gave me Carole and I think Sarah 1795 could well be a daughter. I am a bit doubtful as to Hannah baptised at Barton 1813 but will need to delve further.

I have just been looking at HALS names online and found the following....

11/10/1779 John Wiggins of Hitchin and Susannah Oliver of Hitchin married at Hexton.

I wonder if Susannah died and it's the same John who married Hannah in 1784. There was no indication that John was a widr.......but.

Thanks for all your help and anything else you might come up with.

Susan

Hello Carole,

thought you might like to know that I have found in my files the marriage 3/5/ 1814 Charles Simkins otp b to  Sarah Wigginsx sp. Witness Thomas Francis and Lewis Flint  at Shillington.
In the banns Charles was a widr.!!

In the 1851 census at Shefford Sarah is 55 born Hexton.
I am sure this is the daughter of John & Sarah Wiggins you found for me on the IGI.
I am able to look at the P/R for Shefford to confirm her death I think was 1861.
Tied that up for me so thanks, Susan

Hi Susan

You mention the marriage of John to a Susannah, there is a baptism on the IGI for a William son of John & Susannah 17th June 1781 in Hexton. Any good to you.

I wondered if you noticed the Outrelief Application on HALS index for Hannah Wiggins 2nd July 1836, place Hexton & the index name is Hitchin Union workhouse, her age is 69. Could she be your Hannah, age corresponds with 84 at death but not with 25 at her marriage. :-\
