Title: Joseph Fletcher Death July 1909 in Newport
Post by: HysterySleuth on Wednesday 11 April 12 18:28 BST (UK)
Need newspaper lookup for Joseph Fletcher, travelling umbrella salesman for Rylands. He died, possibly of blood poisoning, age 50 on 27 July in Newport, Monmouthshire. How and why??? Looks like there is a story here. Do the papers tell of an injury earlier in the month? Did he go there to sell umbrellas, or is this connected to the Fletcher who is on death roll from the great port disaster earlier in the month? Joseph    was really a resident of Stockport in Cheshire. Earlier in life, he was the family's emissary when another Fletcher met with tragedy on Isle of Man.  So perhaps he went there to seek the missing Fletcher or to settle matters for the family.

Thank you for posting. Since I posted the request, one of his descendants has found his death cert. She says cause of death is peritonitis.
I just still wanted to know if he was in Newport because of the tragedy early that month.
Thanks,
HS

HysterySleuth,

I had a look through the local newspaper [South Wales Argus] from early July until the middle of August and could see no mention of your Joseph Fletcher.
