Title: Hays family of Beetham
Post by: thomasinahayes on Sunday 08 April 12 17:14 BST (UK)
I am trying to trace the forebears of Richard Hays of Beetham (later Hayes) 1750-1826 and my 3rd great-grandfather. He married Margaret Minikin also of Beetham in 1781. Who were his parents (or older ancestry) please?

Any help gratefully received.

Thank you.

I now have:

Richard Hays 1718 to 1792 (I think) a  tenant farmer at Arneside Tower who married first Eleanor ? and had 2 children. After the death of his wife, presumably in child birth, he married in 1748 Jane Corns in  Garstang Lancashire and had 4 more children.

I am descended from their son Richard  born 1750.

That is as far back as I can get. Do you by chance have any more? How long had the Hays been in the Beetham area? Where did they come from?
And I know nothing of Jane Corns or of Margaret Minikin (c. 1747-1824) who married the son Richard.

Good heavens, thank you very much - I am fascinated.

I have just looked up Newton Reigny and see it is near Penrith. Is there therefore any connection with John Hais 1654 or James Hais, buried 21.4. 1667, curate of Hescatt and Greystoke whom someone else mentioned on this forum quite a time ago?

Have been unable to find a direct link with John and James Hais but likely to be part of the family.Have some info about them, but not able to place them in the family tree

The family supposedly came north from, Glastonbury Somerset, after a someone fled his father's wroth..........

Thank you again. Has anyone researched the Greystoke curate?

I have tried an online search of Glastonbury records of the period and so far found nothing. It was the time of the Civil War of course though the reason for flight could be anything.

I note you have more information on the Hais pair. Vey grateful to know that. Have you see the wider family tree on which the Greystoke connection appears?

I would give you my direct email but I do not know how to do that in private on this site.
