I have traced my family back to this parish. Unfortunately, it was torn down and no longer exists. There is a St. Peter's in Liverpool now, and I contacted them, but they said they have nothing to do with the original one. I am trying to find out where the records from the original one would be. I am planning to come over to England next year (2013), and I'd like to get permission to look through them to see if I can go back further in my family tree. I am already back to the early 1800's, so parish records would be the only records available for me to get back into the late 1700's. If anyone is in Liverpool, could you find out if they have these records on microfilm at one of the libraries? Or if someone knows where the records were sent for archiving, please let me know so that perhaps I could write to get permission to view them next year.
Thanks,
Carole

Hi Carole
The Liverpool Record Office would be the place to visit. Unfortunately it is closed for refurbishment at the moment but the Parish Registers are available (on film) at a temporary site. Just check closer to the date of your visit to see if it has reopened, also check regarding booking of film readers as it is a very busy place.

Hi Carole
The St. Peter's church you refer to was in Church Street. It is Church of England. There was a St. Peter's RC church in Seel Street that still stands but is no longer a church. There are some earlier records on Ancestry for St. Peter's CE have you seen them? Here is the link:-

Thanks, Blue. I don't have a subscription to Ancestry, so I can't look things up there.

Hi,
As Blue has said St.Peters was on Church Street in Liverpool, if you get a chance when you come over wallk down Church Street and on the pavement where the opening is to Liverpool One you will see the Brass Plate with a cross in it which identifies the exact place of the church.

This is a great forum and they will most certainly be able to answer your questions.

Thanks, Roy. When I get back to Liverpool, I'd very much like to do that. If I can't photograph the church, I can photograph the plate. I'm wondering if there is a library in Liverpool that would possibly have a photograph of the old church before it was taken down?

There are photos of St Peter's in several books on old Liverpool, as well as some in the currently rather inaccessible Record Office.
The location of the church can be seen on two of the Godfrey series of map reprints:
Liverpool (Hanover Street) 1848-64' a large scale plan, Liverpool sheet 29, and central Liverpool 1906 (Lancashire sheet 106.14).

Thank you :) I hope the Records Office is accessible when I come over. I was going to come this year, but between the Jubilee and the Olympics, the airfares are VERY high. So I'm planning on 2013 :-)))

There is a picture of St Peter's church on the www.lan-opc.org.uk web site. They also have a very large amount of transcribed records of St Peter's church which you may well find helpful.
Also if you google St peter's Liverpool you will find some photos.

Thanks :) I loved the picture of St. Peter's. It looks like it was a lovely church. Unfortunately, for some reason, the marriage records I need seem to be missing :(

What dates are you looking for?
Lan-opc is continually updating so keep an eye on the site.

Jane is my GGGgrandmother and James was her brother. There was also another child that I am aware of, William, who was baptized in January of 1814. I want to find the marriage record of William and Ann. In some places there last name is spelled McKinsie as below, but on William's information, it is spelled Mc Kinzie.
I figure if William was their first child (not sure about that), then they were probably married in 1812 or 1813 since they tended to have children rather quickly back then. But those years are missing from the records that are online. I wonder what happened to the years from 1755-1822? That whole block is missing :(

That is the William that I mentioned above :-) Now I want to know when his parents were married...I doubt I'll ever really know if their name was Mc Kinzie, McKinsie, or something else. In later census records, the sister of Jane is listed as MacKenzie.

UGH! :) And people wonder why doing the family tree is so challenging! ;D

It's not so muchthat they're missing rather that the kind people beavering away traanscribing the registers haven't done those years yet.
It's always possible they married in another church in Liverpool - I have people marrying in St Nicholas and then having all their chidlren christened in st peter. They could have married elsewhere.

True, I should check the other parishes when I get some extra energy :)
I just got out of the hospital after having my appendix burst, so I can only sit up for a while, then I have to lay down again :)
