Hello Norman, there are several Joseph Allan deaths showing on BDM site post 1950

Do you have his and Susan's birth years to work from ?

All but 2 of the 9 Josephs have 2nd names as well and of the 4 Susans, there is just 1 with no second name

2008/2901    Allan Susan      18 March 1923 (birth date)

If that is definitely her birth date, then by process of elimination on the 2008/2901 information from BDM site, her date of death was 28 January 2008. Someone may be able to offer more with that info when NZ wakes up  ;) ... electoral rolls, cemetery, newspaper death notice etc...

Were you able to pick out your Joseph from the site ?

What was Josephs year of birth

In 1950 he was 28 that makes the year he was born 1922 thats when he went to New Zealand

The only possibility on the BDM site then is the one with the birth date 23 March 1923 ... ref 1983/43583 ... but is John with second name Joseph and also a 3rd name ... unless what we're looking for is referrenced under a different spelling of Allan ...

OR your Joseph is still living at 90 years ....

Under the spelling Allen there isn't Joseph on own that matches age, there are 2 with second name Joseph, born 1922

Nothing showing with the spelling Alan

As far as we know he was Joseph [Joe] we never found a birth cert.he is my great uncle, i am working with my cousin who also lives in scotland. It is possible that he is still living? found the rest of the family and they all came under Allan but you never know .

You should probably remove the name..as we can only now assume he is living

or he could have fitted into the criteria that doesn't show on BMD
Deaths that occurred at least 50 years ago or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago.

so he would have had to have advanced his real age by 10 years at least ... and be only 18 or younger for that to be case

Norman, re your reply #17 that Susan was the wife of the late Joe and family stories have you believing he died in the 1980s, possibility the referrence I mentioned in my reply #7 may be him ? the birth year is 1923 with second name Joseph but Joseph may have only been his preferred and commonly used name, there's also a third name... does the name Gemmell fit anywhere in the family tree?

Well its morning here in the North East of Scotland 10-26am. just settling down .The funeral home isHarbour City Funeral Home Ltd they have a tribute site and its lovely.I think Catherine Docherty was born 1885 but will have to check as far as i know Joe didn,t have a middle name.

You could email the FD and ask if they can give you any info on Joseph, they should have it on file as in NZ the FD files the info for the registration of death

As Susan was cremated..there may not be a "burial place"
again as Janette mentions the Funeral Director would know whether an immediate interment took place or if ashes were returned to rellies

Do you have an address for 1981 census and what would be the nearest cemetery.

Unfortunately for family history, NZ census records are not researchable as not archived ... addresses are searched on Electoral rolls and in various directories, eg White Pages.

As only an occasional visitor to Wellington, I don't have much local knowledge but the biggest cemetery there is Karori. The link given for FD may be worth persuing...

This is the Papers Past link ... http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast mostly older clippings though, before your family came to NZ 1950, more recent newspapers are available at libraries to look through on microfiche ... for anyone to offer to look on your behalf, the request would have to be fairly specific ...

By information on that Yorkshire thread giving Joseph's birthdate as 24 July 1921, it eliminates post #7 anyway  :)

and appears his death was there in York, September 1986
