Title: John Keeling in Nottinghamshire
Post by: Selina93659 on Tuesday 03 April 12 19:02 BST (UK)
Hi all. I'm looking for a marriage for John Keeling, who married a woman called Sarah. Their children were baptised in East Retford and Worksop, from 1812 on wards.
Thanks.
Selina.

Hi Selina,

I think this is the one you're after:

East Retford - 12 May 1811
John KEELING m. Sarah SLINGSBY

I just want to make sure you are not getting them confused -

There are two couples named of John & Sarah Keeling - one at East Retford (the marriage I mentioned) and one at Worksop. I don't think they are the same couple as the occupations don't match, and the dates conflict.

At Worksop, children of John & Sarah Keeling
15 Aug 1804 Richard (b. 19 Jul 1804)
25 Feb 1807 Thomas (b. 03 Feb 1807)
20 May 1810 Mary (b. 27 Apr 1810)
20 Jun 1813 Charles (abode Bridge St, father mason)
20 Sep 1815 Joseph (abode Bridge St, father mason)
08 Jan 1819 Samuel (abode Bridge St, father mason)

At East Retford, children of John Keeling & Sarah (nee Slingsby):
20 Dec 1812 William
13 May 1815 Mary (abode Sutton's Row, father weaver)

Which one are you related to? I can't see a marriage in Notts for the Worksop couple.

Alexander

There is a John KEELING c 1784, Retford, Nottinghamshire and Sarah c 1786, Brammon, Yorkshire in the 1851 Census. They are living in Lincolnshire.

Good find, Trish - that is almost certainly the Retford couple as on FreeREG there are a number of baptisms for their children in Owston, Lincs - John is recorded as a weaver.

At Worksop, it appears John Keeling was buried 1 Dec 1833 (age 63) and Sarah on 10 Apr 1840 (age 59).

Now we just need to know whether Selina is related to the Retford or Worksop Keelings.

Fab find thanks.
I am related to Samuel Keeling 1819, so it's the worksop family. :D

Excellent!
So  not the Sarah Slingsby Marriage.
eg Charles Slingsby Kaling christened 01 July 1827, Owston, Lincs.

So John born c 1770 and Sarah c 1781, Marriage c 1800-1803ish which I cant find.
Sarah may have not even been born in Notts. Why couldnt they have lived til 1841 :-\

I know, just one more year would have been handy :D
Someone on IGI reckons the John Keeling who was buried in 1833 was born in Youlgreave, Derbyshire. So that may be the next area to search.

In fact, have you got the 1841 census for Worksop??
If you have could you look up Richard Keeling 1804, Thomas Keeling 1807, Charles Keeling 1813, Joseph keeling, 1815 and Samuel Keeling 1819.
On the off chance that there living with other family members, Samuel didn't marry until late 1841.
Thanks.

Thanks. Sounds promising if he followed his brother's profession.
