Title: Brownsville, Pennsylvania help needed
Post by: longwm on Monday 02 April 12 19:01 BST (UK)
My father, William Milo Long, was born 3 Mar 1927 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania (Fayette County).  Since his passing on 22 Jun 2010 I have realized that my family has very little information relative to that portion of our family tree.

His father was Willard William Long (someplaces he is listed as William Willard Long) also from Brownsville and born around 1900.

His mother was Ara Ada Harvey from Grindstone, Pennsylvania (Fayette County) also born around 1900.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi longwm

Have you checked  https://www.familysearch.org/ which has census and some other records.

Could this be your grandfather, Willard born about 1903 and living in Brownsville, Fayette, Pennsylvania 1920 with parents ?

IF the above was the right connection, then this would be Milo with his parents in 1900 Brownsville Township, Fayette, Pennsylvania.

Yes.  The Willard you found is indeed my grandfather making Milo my great grandfather.  Thanks for the information.   I will search that site further.

Looks as if Milo died between 1920 - 1930 Census. The 1930 Census shows Amelia (wife of Milo) widowed still living Brownsville, Fayette, Pennsylvania)

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XHSB-MGX

Adelaide Twigg on the above Census was a daughter of Milo and Amelia - sister to Williard.

Found some articles about a bridge collapse in Brownsville in 1924 that mention the death of a Milo Long.  For example - http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~glenntunneycolumn/capsule288.htm  Not sure if it's your Milo, but thought it was a possibility.

The date seems to fit - the last born daughter listed on the 1930 Census was 1924.

I found an article in the Weekly Courier of Connellsville, Penn. from 4 Apr. 1918 that says, "Mrs. Frank Long, 61 years old, a well known resident of Brownsville, died Wednesday morning following an attack of heart failure."  That age seems to fit with Mary Long.  Frank Long appears to be a widower in the 1920 & 1930 Census.

1930 Census also shows a brother John Long born 1877.

IF this is John W Long born August 1877 Brownsville borough, Fayette, Pennsylvania  - 1900  gives his Mother as Mary born  1829 (also mother of Frank)
