Title: Williamson Tunnels Liverpool
Post by: scouse_mouse_2000uk on Sunday 01 April 12 21:36 BST (UK)
Hi Guys, this is a long shot, but hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction.
I am a volunteer at the Friends of Williamson's Tunnels in Edge Hill Liverpool (we can be found on Facebook and also have a website). I have been told that the Territorial Army mapped out these tunnels many years ago. Does anyone know who would have these maps as the barracks are no longer there and who would I have to get in touch with to ask about the maps?
Thanx, Lynn xxx

Liverpool City Council, Planning Dept, might be able to help or they should direct to the correct Department.

Been to the website scousemouse and found it throughly engaging. I've always wondered is there any record of those Williamson employed to build the tunnels?

I am not sure, but I can find out. The Tunnels are amazing, you should come and visit. There is very little about Williamson on record. There are two lots of tunnels, Smithdown Lane and Paddington. I am involved with Paddington side. Lynn

Hi Lynn

I know about the tunnels and lived above them in Chatsworth street. As kids we would frequently scramble down onto the tracks and terrify ourselves by walking a little way into them before legging it, petrified. My Irish ancestors settled in Edge Hill, so would be fascinating to know if they had some involvement.

Why not become a member, five pounds a year. We have monthly meetings at the Fly in the Loaf, you can come and talk to our researchers. Lynn

Once you become a member, you will get a booklet called the Mole with all details in it. Well worth a read. It doesn't matter where you live either x

Many of the TA units have disappeared, but their admin or parent body is something like the Reserve Forces Association with an office in L17.  They might know something.
