Robert Jones born Llangwstenin 1850
pauper? and lodger in 1851 census aged 1 not sure if he was orphaned or abandoned
in llangwstenin in 1861 as a servant /carter aged 11
married in 1870 to Mary Evans in llanasa and now a collier and living in whitford in 1871
place of birth given as
llangwstenin caenarvenshire in 1891
as Llangoldennen, Caernarvonshire in 1881
asLlanduauo, Caernarfonshire, Wales in 1871
I think llangwstenin is near llandudno on the border between caernarvonshire and denbighshire
has any one any information about Robert Jones (1850-1909?)
he was my great grandfather, his son john was born in Harwardan in 1875 and was also a collier
the family moved to Prescot Lancashire and in 1891 Robert and his older 3 sons are all listed as coal miners
I am trying to find parents or siblings

Hi monyroads :)
A warm welcome to Rootschat from me too!
Genuki has some information about Llangwstenin:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CAE/Llangwstennin/index.html
Robert could have been born between 1849 and 1850 (as he was 1 on 1851 census, but he could have been 2 later that year). I checked northwalesbmd births and there are a few possibilities:
http://www.northwalesbmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi
If you decide to order a birth certificate, remember to specify Llangwstenin Parish.
Kindest Regards
Morgan

I have sent away for the marriage certificate but still waiting for it to be sent
I live in Scotland but am planning a visit to North Wales in May
I've been used to accessing records for Scottish relatives via Scotlands people is there an equivalent website for Wales ?
I was planning to visit the Clwyd FHS to look up possible birth/baptism records
thanks for your help

Hi Moneyroads...turns out he is an ancestor of mine too! I am just begining to find out my ancesetry and came across this!
He is my great great grandad apparently on my mothers side.
I have just the information on his dad, a David Jones and unknown mother. Hopefully more to come so I can keep you updated when I find out more!
I know he had 7 children with Mary Evans:
Moses William Jones

Hi Ali
I managed to trace Robert Jones baptism 2nd June 1850 in Llangystennin,Caernarvon,Wales and his mother is Cathrine Roberts of Gwyndy ( she is in the 1841 census for llangystennin aged 10? but wastn't born in that county and was a servant)
the baptism gives David Jones of Bryngosol as father but it seems he never married cathrine and i found no trace of her after Roberts birth although David goes on to marry Margaret Parry and emigrate to Australia
I am decended from Roberts son John Jones (1875-1945) he was my grandfather
keep in touch

Hi,
How interesting, thanks for that! I shall add it to my info.
So your grandfather's sister Sarah Jane Jones (1890-1986) was my great grandma on my mums side! Nice to meet a distant relation through this!
