Title: Expensive Apprenticeship 1800
Post by: arcadian_dream on Saturday 31 March 12 09:35 BST (UK)
Hi All,

I've found an apprenticeship indenture from 1800 for an ancestor of mine.  It is with a draper in London, for 7 years, and the fee paid to the master is £50.  That seems an awful lot of money for the time.  Would this have to be paid at once or were installments common?

Brad.

Sounds  a lot but I think you will find it was for his board and lodgings as well as his training for the full 7 years under the Master.
