Post by: cakelady on Friday 30 March 12 19:11 BST (UK)
Hi everyone
Could anybody advise me on how to get hold of a german birth certificate please. I am very new to this hobby!! My relative was born in Hoerstein Bavaria in 1863. I gather i have to contact the local parish church to this area but cannot trace any. All sites i come across ref record offices are in German, which unfortunatly i dont speak.
Any advise would be much appriciated.

Hello,
I am a German citizen with roots in West-Yorkshire and Westmorland. English is not my first language, sorry for any mistakes.

German civil registration started in Bavaria in 1876. The roman catholic Church in Hörstein, now Alzenau-Hörstein, belongs to the Roman Catholic Bishopric of Wuerzburg. Most of the older church books are researchable on microfilm in the archive (Lesesaal) in Würzburg. On their web page is a link to a list of available church records. Hörstein is mentioned.
