I am planning a visit to Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire/Leicestershire next month as part of my "family history quest". From the research I have done so far, I am looking at the following families in Therfield, Hertfordshire: SLINET / GATWARD / NEWLING / COLLIS / ANDREWS / DOWSE / PORTER / NICHOLAS. I am planning to visit the parish church and hope for the best through a search through the grave yard, but if anyone has any interest in these surnames in the village or area in general, please let me know, and I can provide more information on who exactly I am interested in. Susan GATWARD (Bn 1832) is my 3rd Great Grandmother. Thanks.

Where exactly are you visiting? Will you being paying a visit to local record offices? Are you planning to visit cemeteries, if so, which ones? This will help me and other researchers decide if we can be of help to you or not.

Hello, and am only passing through, so only planning on visiting the graveyard at the parish church, which I believe is called St Mary's, Therfield. I have a subscription to ancestry.co.uk, and don't plan on visiting any records office. This is a few days I have free while my wife and children are away, so I plan only a quick primary visit, and if I find anything interesting, I can plan a longer visit later. I am also planning the same thing in Bedfordshire and Leicestershire, with just a day or so in each county.

Have you seen the website. therfield.net It contains a lot of information and is well worth a look. I found it very helpful researching my Knights ancestors.

Dear all,
Sorry for the delay in replying, but I've been away, not only in Hertfordshire, but Germany!
The therfield.net web site is very useful. In fact, I arranged to meet the author in Therfield during my trip up there.
There is so much information on the site that it is essential to view if you have any interest at all in Therfield or the surrounding area.
There is also a nice public house in nearby Barkby (The Tally Ho) which sells an ale brewed near Therfield!
