I am looking for information about my 2x great grandmother Mary Alice Sands in some records Alice Mary. She was born in Mumbai Maharashtra India about 1864. Who were her parents, when did she come to England? I know she was in service in Edgbaston Birmingham at some point and she married William Ingram.
One of their children was Alice Emma Ingram, my great grandmother
Does anyone have any information, even a tenuous link
Thank you
Shirley

You said you did not mind tenuous connections: I have George Ingram b 1872 in Scotland- who served in Bangalore India. He was married to Elizabeth May Champion, and they had 3 children (born in Bangalore)- William George 1905, Arthur Charles 1907, and Annie Champion 1909 who are listed in 1911 census in Cambuslang, Scotland with their mother and paternal grandparents. William Ingram had died enroute from India. Widow Elizabeth May Champion Ingram moved back to England. If you hear of these folk on your searchings, I would appreciate you notifying me. Happy hunting!

Hi thank you for this information, I am unsure if this family belongs anywhere in my tree but I do not mind links however tenuous.
I also have ancestors from India on my Grandfather Granger's side, (could also be Callaghans), who I have been searching for since I was given this information over a year ago so it is possible I might come across your people. Have you tried the FIBIS website? I found this useful.
Good Luck in your search

I had never heard of FIBIS, but I am on their page now and will look into this. Thank you so much for the lead. I appreciate your keeping Ingram's in mind, as I will also for Grangers & Callaghans.

So far, I have not found them in FIBIS. However, it turns out that if Elizabeth May (nee Champion) and her Ingram children did go to England 1911 or after, they kept on going. I found the boys as soldiers in Australia in WWII and Elizabeth May remarried to Mr George William Rowan.

So far, I have not found them in FIBIS.
Some India records are on FamilySearch, always worth a whirl. Also the big repository, some of which FIBIS volunteers have indexed, is the British Libray in the East India Collection. They too have indexed a good deal, and there is a wealth of original records if you can get there. www.bl.uk

Thank you for this, I have just checked family search for another branch or our family, without success but will try the Ingrams. Alice Mary/Mary Alice was married to William Ingram in England so he might never have been in India

One of my 2x great granmothers is also Mary Alice Sands and there are also Granger's in my family tree, so i think we must be related. As yet i don't have any additional information on Mary but if i find anything i will let you know.
