I have to ask ...is this the same William Thomas Jackman who was sentenced to death in 1914 and succeeded in having his conviction quashed on appeal?
-
Yes Shane,... Quite a story I have that through a family member but once he went to war I lost track of him. He is my late mother uncle. Thanks again for all help I have been trying to check out east coast voting etc to try and track were they ended up living. I live in Perth Western Australia. This such a fantastic web site. I got so much help for the other side of this family (Obrien's).
Kind regards.....Annola.. :)

Hi Annola
I am Warren Schofield, son of Ileen Enid Jackman whose father was the William Thomas Jackman that you have been looking into. We have also been looking into his 'roots' in Carnarvon and found nothing. You are the first ancestor that we have been able to locate. We did not know that 'Little Willy' had a brother or sister. We were told he had a cousin of the same name (whom he lived with in Carnarvon). Really keen to swap information with you. Not sure how to contact you through this site (it took us hours to figure out how to post a reply).
My mother is deceased. I knew my uncle - Edgar Thomas Jackman and aunty - Joyce Pengelly (nee Jackman) (both also deceased). I have two cousins from Joyce. Edgar's two children are also deceased.
Cheers Warren

Hi Nola
Thanks for your reply. Our contact details are:
Warren Schofield – wlschofield@hotmail.com
This is the information so-far gained from the Rootschat forum between you and Shaun
Thomas Jackman (London) Married Bridget Phelan or Whelan)3 children:
1. Walter Frederick
2. Anastasia
3. Thomas (1868-1936)
Thomas (1868-1936) married Sarah Ann Wingfield ? children:
1. William Thomas (1890 – 1960?)
??
Our understanding is this. The William Thomas Jackman that was my Grandfather may not be the William Thomas Jackman as above. We were told that there were cousins both named “William Thomas Jackman”. My Grandfather was the younger and was called ‘Little Willy’. We were also led to believe that my Grandfather lived with his uncle (Thomas Jackman) and his cousin (William Thomas Jackman) on the property Wallal.
To confirm:
My Grandfather was the William Thomas Jackman who joined the army in 1915 and after being discharged took up the position with P&O in Port Said. He married Egezia Camarotta? (not sure of spelling) and had 3 children, Edgar, Ileen and Joyce. After Egezia died in pregnancy, William decided to bring his children back to Australia. The girls went to board in a catholic school so did not know much about their extended family or their father’s past. This is why we have sketchy information. William apparently worked for the Waterboard and then was a storeman in a furniture factory at Granville. This is confusing as he had such a responsible job in Port Said. He apparently was devastated by the loss of Egezia?
The questions we always had were
Why did William settle in Sydney and not WA
Did he have family in WA (Ileen didn’t think so)
Joyce’s husband has told us that it was not ‘allowed’ to talk about Egezia or the past
Now that the ‘Murder’ incident has come to light, we wonder if he was the William Thomas Jackman involved, and he did not tell Edgar, Ileen and Joyce about his past. Maybe he did not want to return to WA because of that? Maybe he did not have relatives left in WA, especially if Thomas Jackman was his uncle and not his father. Another story which may indicate a cover-up is that he used his cousins birth certificate to get enlisted as he was too young?? Maybe there never was a cousin of the same name and it was a cover story to hide his past. Lots of questions?? No-one left alive to give us any answers.
We are travelling and our ‘stuff’ is in storage, otherwise we may have the marriage certificate and maybe even a birth/death certificate to confirm his identify with dates. His age was apparently 25 when he joined the army and this ties in with Sept 1890 birth (if he was using his own birth certificate)
We will definitely look into it but it may take a few months for us to get the certificates. Our interest is now piqued. Hope some of this makes sense to you and you may have stories to confirm or deny all these theories.
Cheers Warren
