Title: Emily Davison
Post by: vbond on Thursday 22 March 12 23:11 GMT (UK)
I recently dropped back onto this board after an absence of some time and was interested in the "Rhodesian Death Register ..." post.

I became aware of Emily Davison from another source and knowing that she had migrated to Rhodesia I followed the instructions in the "Rhodesian Death Register ..." post and found Emily Louise Davison at reference 39/56. Following steps 11 and 12 I went to Vol 39 and found DN 56 which belonged to Arthur Ernest Palmer ???

In fairness to the "Rhodesian Death Register ..." post I brushed through the last three or four instructions as being less likely to my case, however it turned out that Emily died in 1956. So, going the Vol for 1956, #1-418 - DN 39 I found Emily Davison's registration.  :)

At this point I took an extra step. Instead of going to "Zimbabwe, Death Registers, 1890-1977; Index to Death Register, 1892-1977" in Step 3. of the "Rhodesian Death Register ..." post, I selected "Zimbabwe, Death Notice, 1904-1976". "Browsed the ... images" and got to the page with all the district names on it.

From the Death Notice info I had found previously, I new that she had died in Bulawayo, so I selected the Bulawayo section. Knowing that she had died in January of 1956 I proceeded to browse Death Notices 1956, Vol. 145, where I found Emily's "Information of a Death" form. This form had additional info to the DN.  ;D

Emily Louisa Stoodley was born in Southampton, England 1868. She emigrated to South Africa sometime after 1871 with her parents and siblings. They most likely lived in the Port Elizabeth area.

Emily married Charles Robert Davison, a shoemaker, in Durban in 1891. In 1894 she followed him to Rhodesia where she had at least 4 children (all girls). She died in Bulawayo General Hospital in 1956 of ... well basically old age. She was 87 years old. What an amazing woman.

Emily Davison was my Great Great Aunt.
