hi all...my first post here....nice to meet you all. I have recently started trying to trace back our family tree as we know very little about our grandparents. I'm trying to find members of the KENWORTHY family from DELPH Yorkshire around the turn of the century. I believe my geat grandfather to be EDWARD KENWORTHY...a butcher. he was married to MARTHA (Gartside) and had a number of children including Emma, Alice, Hugh and Grant. I believe they may of had a daughter called SARAH, born in 1891....just after the census. I have found a Sarah Kenworthy in the same area on 1901 census listed as a visitor with a family names Robinson. The intruging part of this story is that ALICE married a WILLIAM THOMAS ROBERTS in 1905.....but...by the 1911 census he is living in Abergele north Wales with Sarah...and Alice Roberts is back home in Delph with her parents! We have so many questions and theories and would be so grateful to hear from anybody who may be able to help us fill in the gaps.

Did you know that Sarah married William T Roberts in 1915, in the St Asaph registration district?
-
yes Mabel. William and Sarah are my grandparents. it seems on the face of things William left Alice for her (very) young sister! William and Alice married in 1905 but he and Sarah (according to 1911 census) have 3 children by 1911. they marry in 1915 ...i have a hunce after Alice passed away. But....more intrigue....David (1906 died soon after birth) and Daniel (1907) were registered as Roberts (i f i that found correct records) but the next 3 children before they married were registed Kenworthy. So I think it possible that the boys may of been Alices boys not Sarahs...but thats just a hunch.

I think you'll need to get a few certificates to establish the parentage of Sarah and some of the children
I haven't got a sub for the British Newspaper archive but the results coming up on a search for William Roberts and Delph suggests he may have been sentenced to 14 days hard labour in August 1908 for deserting his wife for her sister
-
Oh my word!! how have you found this Mabel? and how would i get a sub for news archives? im new to all this! Thanx X

I found Alice Kenworthy aged 13 on 1891 census at the BULLS HEAD INN. Emma shaw was the landlady.....possibly Alices aunt. on 1901 census Alice seems to be in the poor law work house Running Hill.
Poor girl doesnt sound like she had much fun in life... :(

Hi, Edward and Martha are also my great grandparents, have discovered that they had seven children, Emma Jane born 1576, Alice born qtr 4 1877, Olive born qtr 4 1880, Hugh [my grandfather] born 13 oct 1882, Grant born qtr 2 1885, Abraham born qtr 3 1887, May 1894. But don't know of a Sarah.
Hugh married Elizabeth Hannah Basford, 4 aug 1910, in Saddleworth, 1910. and had 6 daughters one being Annie born 5 march 1912 ( my mother).
Edward was a Journeyman butcher and at some time or other had a pork butchers Shop in King Street, Delph ( a village in Saddleworth)
Edward was born qtr 1 in Saddleworth and Martha born 1852 also in Saddleworth.
just as a note Emma Jane was licensee of a Pub also in King Street possible married name of Shaw.
Hope this all helps

My 3X great grandmother is Ann Kenworthy.
Birth abt 1807 in Delph, Yorkshire
She married James Hooton and moved to Manchester. Don't have any more info on her though before she married.
