I'm searching for evidence of the HOOSON family living in the (Bakewell, possibly) Great Longstone and Little Longstone area of the Peak District. I know there was a small area in Little Longstone named Hooson but I have not seen where it is on any map.
ANY help would be most gratefully received. :)

HOOSON KATHLEEN S b.1910

I'm not sure if Tideswell is any good to you.

DEREK!!! Thank you so much!! :D

Derek, I have EDWARD HOOSON Christened 4 Nov 1690, Bakewell. Does this mean Bakewell the town? Or does it represent the Parish? His father is THOMAS HOOSON Christened 1677 in Bakewell. I have his wife as Elizabeth Crossland. Before that Hooson, I have THOMAS HOUSEN, 1654 Bakewell.
As you have documents, could you please check these men as to where they were born? I'm not sure if you can do this but I would appreciate any nhelp at all.
(Incidentally, my Derbyshire ancestors were both survivors of the Eyam plague. It's fascinating to think that neither my husband nor myself had any idea we had Derbyshire ancestors! How odd that our ancestors were so close to each other!)

And no, Tideswell is no good to me, I don't think. Thanks anyway.
The reason I'm looking for a Great/Little Longstone connection by the way, is because I know there was a 'Hooson's yard' in Little Longstone.

Davena...after 1837 "Bakewell" could have meant anywhere in the Bakewell area..which was when the Civil registration Districts were formed..and bakewell was one of them............but before then Bakewell meant the town or parish of Bakewell.
I also have the Bakewell parish records..and am at this moment compiling a list for you of the HOOSON's therein.......
Back later.
Derek.

..and i also have the Eyam registers!!..

OK Davena..here are the BAKEWELL Baptisms......these are HOOSON..but it may be that, so far back, they may be inextricably linked.often by mis-spelling, to the HOWSONS or Housens..of which there are a fair number..we'll ust have to work through them.......
Bakewell baptisms (HOOSON):-
Anne 24.09.1735/...Ellen and George 23.06.1731/...Jane 14.11.1739..and again Jane 12.08.1744 ('ll check if the first one died)/...Joseph 16.04.1728 (All these are children of JOSEPH and ANNE)
Edward 12.04.1674/...Philip 13.05.1677?...William 10.05.1681/..(all children of CHARLES and ELIZABETH)
Edward 04.11.1690/...Elizabeth20.02.1698/...Ellen 08.10.1689..(children of THOMAS and ELIZABETH)
Elizabeth 03.03.1696 daughter of JOSEPH and JANE
Jane 20.07.1698 daughter of JOSEPH and SARAH
Under HOUSEN (to my mind the same family) we have:-
Edward 30.09.1632 and Robert 15.02.1635..sons of Thomas
Thomas son of Edward 29.10.1654....
There are plenty of Howsons..and since one is the child of Charles and Elizabeth..i suspect we'll have to go throught them also...........for the moment i'm now searching the HOOSON Marriages and Burials.

Three relevant marriages:-
Joseph Hooson married Anne newton of Over Haddon 03.04.1727
Thomas Hooson married Elizabeth Crossland 12.06.1688
Charles HOWSON married Elizabeth Bennett 28.04.1662...........this might be a HOOSON misspell..but its possibly a bit early..but possibly worth bearing in mind since there is no marriage for Charles HOOSON at Bakewell.
If you don't know the area, the Bakewell is surrounded by a plethora of small villages..most of which i have the records for..........my own family came from the same area.....

This is all most intriguing!! Thank you for the info.
Yes, I do know the area as I went to Thornbridge (Between Ashford and Gt.Longstone) when it was a teacher training college and since then (I left in 1969) my husband and I, along with our daughter when she was still at home, have taken holidays in the area whenever we could. We love the area so much - especially the Monsal, Ashford, Gt. Longstone triangle, plus Chatsworth and Edensor, of course - and when we realised we had ancestral links with the area our feelings just seemed to sort of 'click' into place!
I envy you living there, although mid Wales is also stunning! (I'm half Welsh...not as easy to research!)
