Title: Tailor/Draper apprenticeships in Yorkshire
Post by: kiwibob on Saturday 17 March 12 22:03 GMT (UK)
Is there anyway of finding out where my Grandfather (Robert Ernest Peat) might have done his Tailor/Draper Apprenticeship in Yorkshire, possibly at a guess, and only a guess, around the Eaglescliffe area.He would have been 15 years old in 1900.

Kellys Directory of Durham 1890 at www.historicaldirectories.org has one tailor listed for Eaglescliffe,a Chrisopher Harbron or Harbrow. The census for 1891 shows a father and son of this name as tailors in Eaglescliffe.Perhaps he served an apprenticeship with them.

Roger

If you think he may have been apprenticed in 1901 when aged 15, then it would be worth checking the entry for that tailor's household on census night, just in case your lad is listed.  That woul dgive you your answer.

If this is him he was living at home with parents in 1901; might be worth checking through the census for that area to find out where the tailors are!
