Title: Allens buried in Lisburn Cathedral Graveyard.
Post by: corinthian on Saturday 17 March 12 12:39 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Have just discovered that some of my Allen ancestors are buried in Lisburn Cathedral Graveyard. Does anyone know if there are any sites that keep burial records for this graveyard. I'm looking for any children of George Allen,a shoemaker from Lisburn & an unknown female Thompson.

Regards

Coreen

Have you any dates for George Allen, do you know if he was a member of the Orange Order?

I don’t see a George Allen among Lisburn Cathedral Burying Ground Inscriptions but according to a book I have James Allen was the son of George Allen and his wife who was formerly Thompson. James Allen was a Shoe-maker of Bow Street, Lisburn as was his brother David.

[ornate, upright marble, with scroll design, iron railings]
In loving memory of James Allen, born  12th August 1832,
Died at Bow Street, Lisburn, 19th Octr 1873.
Also his daughter Mary Elizabeth,
who died in infancy.
Also his daughter Margaret,
born 26 Feby 1866, died 13th Jaunuary  1870.
Also his Mother-in-law Mary Elizabeth Short,
born 23rd Decr 1815, died 19th Septr 1871.
Also his son Andrew, born 23rd Decr 1858, died 8th Novb b1887.
Mary Allen, wife of the above named James Allen,
Born 23rd Decr 1835, died 26th Feby 1912.

Hi,

Lousy,George was born c1798 & it is quite possible that he was a member of the Orange Order.

Cyclamen - Thank-you so much for that. This all ties in with some other info I have regarding this family. I believe there were at least two other brothers;Edward Allen born 1828 in Ballinderry (married Anna Patterson) & John Allen born 1931 in Glanavy (married Julia Anna Bell).  John died 28/01/1900 at 46,Hanover St,Belfast. Thanks also for the PM - my grt-grandfather,George Allen, died in 1916 in WW1 so maybe that's a reference to him.
