Title: South America: Surinam
Post by: saxman61 on Thursday 15 March 12 11:40 GMT (UK)
Hello, I am trying to find details of an ancestor of mine, a William Drummond who married Susanna Catharina Wohlfahrt in the country of Surinam South America circa 1807. I am aware that William Drummond had a military career and died in the battle of Fort Erie in 1814. Any information or suggestions would be very welcome.
Thank you.

Do you know whether he was officer or other ranks? If officer he'll be easier to trace...If you don't know either way, a quick search of the Army List for say 1813 or 1814 will reveal any officers with that name.

In a quick search in Google Books I've found 2/Lt William Drummond in the Marines, with seniority from 20th March 1797, in the 1800 List. He's still there in 1802 but has risen to 30th in seniority.

Hi, you posted your search a long time ago, did you find your answer? If not, here it is:

and Susanna's ancestors:

Now that gave you the hints on your ancestors, I would be interested in the descendants. Are you aware that you have a famous ancestor?

Kind regards,
