Hi Tom

Have you managed to find WW1 service papers for Alex Grant? Sometimes these make mention of marriage and children's birth dates which can help for this period.

Alexander Grant didn't marry until 1918 in Scotland, just 7 months before he was killed.

Alexander Grant   30   Motor Car Driver (Corporal 3/5 Bedfords) of Crowborough Camp, Essex, son of Alexander Grant and Jessie nee Calder

married

Elizabeth Barbara Simpson  29   School Teacher of Logie Cottages, Forres, Elgin, dau. of Robert Urquhart Simpson, Postman (deceased) and Margaret Ann, nee Inch.

Married 29/1/1918 Forres, Elgin

So you need to be looking for an Elizabeth Barbara Grant (rather than Lizzie).

Can't see any trace of her in England records so would guess she returned to Scotland after Alexander's death.

Can you tell us how you know about Lizzie Simpson ?
SP has Alexander Grant and Elizabeth Simpson marriage 1918 Moray(shire)
Can't see any other marriage that would match up with the information you have(in Scotland)

ev

Added - Annette , that would seem to make some sense  ;)

Just to note -

SP has Elizabeth Barba(as much as can be entered) surnames Simpson/Grant death 1961 Aberdeen ,
born c1887

Just the combination of names , can't say for sure that this is "Lizzie"

Many thanks Annette , it would look that he must have been on leave when he got married , a lot of why s did he go to du nstable to enlist , i thought his wife was from there , his adress there was beachwood dunstable , the reason i am tracing them is, his oldest brother was married to my grandmothers sister , i have drawn a blank trying to find them , so trying to get a lead by finding out about Alex and any family he might have ,
                  also thanks ev ,
                                          regards tom

Have had a look at this certificate - she died 6/12/1961 Jubilee Hospital, 17 King Street, Huntly, Aberdeen aged 74.   It is definitely her.

She died as Elizabeth Barbara Grant, widow of Alexander Grant, Driver.   So, she clearly never remarried and although I can't read the name of the informant it doesn't appear to be any family member so I suspect she didn't have a child as a result of her very short marriage.
