Hi,
My great grandfather was born in Rotthenburg - Germany abt. 1856, and came to the UK some time before 1885, when he married my grt grandmother in London. I have searched the incoming passenger lists but have had no luck tracing him - or his brother who travelled with him. Wondered if anyone could help/suggest anything else...could they have come to the UK via any other means do you think ?
Names are Gotthardt Max Nauer and Karl Theodore Nauer..I would imagine it would have been around 1880 ish ?
Any help would be greatfully received.
Thanks,
Soozie :o)

Ships from northern European ports didn't produce passenger lists on arrival in the UK unless their voyage had started further away. So I've been lucky to find someone who joined a ship in Italy - because the ship's voyage started in India and thence through Suez. Unless therefore the ship was for example sailing from Bremen or Hamburg via Southampton to New York, you'll be out of luck.
I have no idea at all whether the German authorities kept lists - or if they did, whether the lists survive.

Hi,
If you look at Anscestry there are a list of incoming passengers: I cannot give you the full information as I do not have a membership. Maybe someone else could help.
Karl T Nauer (Port of Arrival) Southampton
Chas Nauer " Southampton
Florence Nauer " "
Gottlieb Nauer " "
Alice Nauer " "
and a few other Nauers whose port of arrival is London

Hi Viv, thank you so much for this...think I may have checked these names out before ( a long time ago on Ancestry ) and don't think it was 'my' Nauers ? ..but i am a full member still, so Ill take another look.
Many thanks
Susie.

Hallo Soozie,
These Nauers were not exactly shown as a family, I just thought that they might have a connection.
Karl T Nauer was "alone" .
Good luck.

OK - thanks Viv....Yea, I am only assuming that they came over together ? Could easily have travelled separately... - I'll check it out.
Thanks :o)
