Title: Thomas YOUNG
Post by: dunlata on Tuesday 13 March 12 16:12 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Help wanted.
Thomas Young born 1747, Minehead, Somerset was married to Sarah Davis born1752 also in Minehead, Somerset.  Have not been able to find their wedding date nor where marriage took place.

I believe Sarah's father was Robert Davis - have not been able to find any information on his particulars or who was Sarah's mother.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Dunlata

P.S. - The above Thomas Young's first born was Dr. Thomas Young, the famous Egyptologists. Married to Eliza Maxwell (Born ?)

A google search brings up a website which says Thomas Snr & Sarah married on 28 May 1772 at Wiveliscombe, Somerset.  Another website gives the same date but quotes Minehead as the 'venue'. Might be worth seeing if you can check out parish records?

Hi Dazey999,

Many thanks for your input.  The date of marriage fits in with the date of the first born (I have learned there were nine births to follow). The two venues could be the banns being held at two parish churches.

Tks.
Cheers, Dunlata

Forgot to mention that the same website says Thomas Snr & Sarah were both Quakers.

You can explore the Davis and Young family trees several generations up and down from Thomas Young (the egyptologist and discoverer of the wave nature of light) on the Geni website: http://www.geni.com/people/Thomas-Young-FRS/6000000002515391370. He was my first cousin four times removed.

Hi Robert,

Many thanks for your input. Most helpful!

I have been helping my cousins "Young" with their family tree. Their father, my uncle, was Sir Richard D. Young.
