my uncle Samuel Dack died on board ship after the war (not sure if Royal or Merchant Navy)
I know he was buried at Dunkirk but do not have the date.
I cannot find anything on Ancestry for the date of Death so cannot get a death certifiacte to find out how he died I beleive he was between 30 and 40 years old.

 Any help appreciated

				http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/Default.asp?j=1
 - there is one Samuel Dack here on the catalogue (BT 372/79/89) who was a merchant seaman b. North Shields.
Does the place/date of birth listed there fit with your man?

I checked the Marine death indexes, the closest I could find is:
Dack, Charles S, aged 30, died on the ship Tiderange, 1956, page 24.

If this is your man, you should be able to order a copy of his death certificate from the GRO.

 - the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Tiderange was re-named Tidesurge in 1958.

Jorose, thank you for your information.
Yes the first part is correct Samuel was in the Merchant Navy.
Your second response - my first thought was no because of the name Charles but when I looked at the link The ship went to Christmas Island .... I have a flag from 1956 Christmas Island H Bomb T !  I did not know which uncle it had belonged to but maybe it was Sammys ?
