Hello, am new to the forum and am looking for any information concerning the MOCHAN'S who stayed in Calton, specifically I think in Stevenson Street. My grandfather JOSEPH MALARKEY had a sister JESSIE who married PETER MOCHAN. She died in 1948 and I am researching the Malarkey name and all the connections they had during the last century.
I have attached a photograph of the Malarkey family from around 1955 if that jogs any memories...

No, I don't have any census returns for the Mochan's but I have some marriage certificates for PETER MOCHAN and JESSIE MALARkEY from 1925 and various others going back from there. I am happy to research forward or backwards...!

What were their parents names?

PETER was 24 at marriage and JESSIE was 23.
His parents were PATRICK MOCHAN and CATHERINE MOCHAN (maiden name MCMANUS).
Her parents were JOHN MALARKEY and ELLEN MALARKEY (maiden name SPRATT).

My name is Ben Mochan. My full name is Bernard. My great grandparents were from Saltcoats, I believe, and came to Connecticut in the early 1900s. They settled in Ansonia, CT. Not sure if this is at all helpful. I know my branch of the family was mostly from the Glasgow area. But I know there's an Andy Mochan, or there was, in Aberdeen.

My grandfather was also Bernard Mochan, as was my father. My grandfather went to Scotland in the 80's. He found information that suggested that the name was the joining of two clans, the Bearmachs and the Conns. Eventually becoming Bearmachconn. Then becoming Machconn. Apparently a large part of the clan went to Ireland for several hundred years where the name evolved into Mochan. When part of the family eventually went back to Scotland, the new spelling stuck. I have no idea if any of this is accurate. It's just what's been told to me. I was in Scotland in 1988 but was unable to get any more information.

My maiden name was Mochan. Jesse malarkey and Peter Mochan were my grandparents.
