hi,
Please can someone help me with information for a soldier of the 17th Manchester
Regiment, he was Lance Corporal Edward Moores of Horsa St Bolton. If he is one
of my relative's the only other information i have is he was born in 1897? and his
wife's name was Ethel don't no if there was children.
any help would be appreciated

There is an Edward Moores, born Bolton in 1891, but not 1897?

There may not be any Army Papers!
A lot were destroyed by bombing during World War 2!
If he died during WW1, there will be something to look at.

There is indeed a shortage of army documents.
I can't find him using the info you've given in the service records at the National Archives (there are two possible reasons - firstly as stated, most records were destroyed in WW2; secondly I may not be searching effectively enough). I can't find him on medal cards either - a couple of Privates but no L/Cpl. There is a possible casualty record on the CWGC website, killed 30th July 1916, L/Cpl E Moores of the Manchesters, but his wife's name is given as Minnie rather than Ethel...
