Hi Guys
Can someone help with Glasgow records please?
I have a James Miller (Cooper) born 1811 Ireland. 1851 finds him Married to Rosanna (English) with james 17, John 15, Agnes 12, Catherine 9, Isabella 7, Rosanna 5 (All born Ireland) then Patrick 3 born Glasgow.
They lived at Garngad Rd
In 1861 james is listed as a Widower in the City Poorhouse then he dies there in 1862.
I know what happens to James but have no idea about the other children.
I can find no death for Rosanna on Scotlands People 1851-1861
I wondered if someone could look up the poor relief records at the Mitchell Library?? I am stuck down here in the Midlands & I thought it might give me an idea of where the rest of the family went.
Are there records of people moving back to Ireland readily available??
I am really not sure how to trace them any further - I would love to know more about the Irish connection, I hope someone can help.
Many thanks

I will have a look for you at some point when I make it into Glasgow.
Can you tell me --
James Miller (Cooper) is that his job title?
Rosanna (English) is that her maiden name or origin?

Hi,
Had a second go at looking at the 3 Poorhouse indexes (including Glasgow) and called up another 4 volumes of poss. links.
No James Miller/Millar born around 1811 Ireland or not on record at any of the Poorhouses. Nor could I find any of his family with names and around dates provided.
Whichever poorhouse he died in it is not on record at the Mitchell. Sorry.

What info does his death certificate give?
Who was the informant?
The 1861 census transcription gives his birthplace as Glasgow

You sent me PM for someone else by mistake.
Did you get my posting and PM re search of 8 volumes of Poorhouse records I made for you at Mitchell ?

HMMMM
Bit of mystery- if you look at the line above it lists Ireland - I think we had assumed that it was a mistake - he claims in 1851 to be Irish.
I will take a look at some of the childrens certificates for marriages etc to see if it reveals more.
I will check out Scotlands People too to see if he was really scottish - no reason to lie though???
Any ideas about how to clear this up?
Karen
