Could you give us a timescale and if possible a name and DOB?
-
It will be after 1912. His name was William Fredrick Coombs and he was born in Dorset in 1875
-
After a quick look, I cannot find anyone with that name who died at sea. He is not mentioned on the CWGC site.
Try searching the Marine Death Indices for free at

However In the past I have found these far from complete. Other than that looks like a trip to Kew.

Thank you very much I think it will have to be Kew

Nice Find!
William Henry Field Coombs was a Royal Navy Signalman from Bristol so not the man we are looking for. However your other find (which I have now found) is likely contender Although his name is the wrong way round. His age and place of birth are in order and must be worth a follow up
Name:COOMBS, Frederick W
Date of death:18 March 1911
Age:34
Place of death:Fifeness
Place of birth:Bridport
Ship's name:Hannah
TNA piece BT334/49
Problem is which HANNAH!
There were several ships around with that name in 1911. I think this is the one.
HANNAH official number 29411 built at Par in 1865 registered in Llanelli.
I know she was wrecked in March 1911 but cannot give a specific date. However she was removed from the British register in 1911 and her registration papers are at Kew in BT110/322/12 This should tell you exactly when she was lost. Unfortunately her crew agreements for 1911 are lost or destroyed.
I cannot find any vessels lost off Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia in 1911 but he could have died from an accident or illness. However I can find no reference to anyone of that name other than the above.

Thank you very much I will try and follow this up . I can not find him on the 1911 census so it could be him in 1911.
-
Just to confirm the vessel was HANNAH official number 29411
