Hi im trying to find the parents of Rebecca Crawshaw, on the 1841 cencus it says she was born about 1806 in Yorkshire, England Civil parish Silkstone. I know she married George Holden in 1830 on 10 May. Any information would be great thankyou

What parish did she wed in, and what names witness?
Does she survive to 1851 (and give another age & place of birth)?

Hi she married in silkstone parish and cant make out the witnesses names and she is in 1842, 61 and 1871 census but nothing on parents. And suzard you are right it could be 1809 she was born. :)

Dodworth is in Silkstone parish. I can't see a baptism in Silkstone, or a non conformist one in the area. Unfortunately 1851 seems to be too faded to read, and damaged. I only found it by searching for Lionel.
I think the witnesses are Joseph Bestwick and Ann Hattersley.
There seem to be two Crawshaw families from Dodworth baptising children in the period you are interested in:
Thomas (labourer) and Elizabeth:
Ann baptised 7 Jan 1805 - mother Elizabeth recorded as "late Haigh"
Mary bap 16 Aug 1807
William bap 31 May 1811
Joshua (farmer) and Ann:
David bap 10 Mar 1805 - mother Ann recorded as "late Hattersley"
Isaac bap 6 Dec 1807
Elizabeth bap 13 Aug 1809
Isaac bap 11 Oct 1811
There's also a burial of an Elizabeth d. Thomas Crawshaw of Dodworth buried 21 Dec 1808 aged 8yrs. I don't see a baptism for her.
Hope this helps

Thankyou all for your feed back and Marmaduke 123 thanks for that feed back its something to work on. This morning i came across a baptism on Ancestry Rebecca Crawshaw
Baptism Date: 23 Feb 1794
Parish: Silkstone with Stainborough, All Saints
Father's Name: Josa Crawshaw
This looks spot on for her but too early what do you think everyone.

I saw this too, and there is another one about 30 years earlier. It does look too early for your Rebecca, but at least it shows Rebecca was a family name. I think you need to check the birth years of Rebecca's children, to see if it is in any way possible.
I was interested in the 1809 baptism of an Elizabeth to Joshua and Ann, possibly named in tribute to the Elizabeth daughter of Thomas, who had recently died. Other than Elizabeth the Joshua and Ann children all had old testament names. (I'm assuming Joshua and Thomas, both in Dodsworth, are related).
Don't forget to look at the images on Ancestry! There's often other information such as abodes and the indexing is far from perfect. You can browse through too - I've found some people who haven't been indexed this way, easier if you know the birth year roughly.

Hi do you think her date of birth 1806 or 1809 could be wrong because i havent realy got this backed up only off census's so the 1796 birth could be right. I have also found a family tree on Ancesrty with Rebecca the 1796 dof and showing Ann Hattersley as her mother. Ann Hattersley is also on her marriage certificate as a witness so im thinking her date of birth must be that of 1796. what do you think Marmaduke 123.

Rebecca and George's last child Joshua was born c. 1846, so it's highly unlikely that Rebecca was born as early as 1796. Also, she is very consistent with a birth year of around 1809 in every census, and her burial record at St John Dodworth on 17 April 1878 gives her age as 69, which also matches.
George Holden is recorded as age 50 on his burial record 11 Apr 1858, also Dodworth St John, so they were about the same age.
Joshua Crawshaw married Ann Hattersley 17 March 1789. They had quite a lot of children:
George 1790
Richard 1795
Rebecca 1794
John 1799
Ann 1800
Robert 1803
David 1805
Isaac 1807
Elizabeth 1809
Isaac 1811
I can't see a burial for the first Isaac, or any other record for the 1794 Rebecca.
I think the first Rebecca probably died. Maybe Elizabeth, born in the right year, became known as Rebecca later, or there could even be a mistake in the register! George and Rebecca did have children Joshua and Ann, so they do look likely parents for her.
I think you need to follow up other members of both families and see if there are any further clues. Is there a marriage or burial for Elizabeth for example? Are there any wills? Ann Hattersley the marriage witness might well be a cousin.
All this from Ancestry by the way, and you clearly have access so need to work through the possibilities before coming to a conclusion, which might well be on the balance of probabilities if there isn't a baptism.
