This is my my penultimate major mystery
I've found him in every census except 1861
Births Mar 1850
Eveson Joseph St Saviour 4 537
Deaths Mar 1926
Eveson Joseph 76 Southwark 1d 85
In 1851 he's at 17 Broadwall Christchurch, London. Age 1.
HO 107 1557 17? (not sure of the last digit)
Joseph Eveson 26 Greengrocer London, Smithfield
Eliza E(lizabeth) Eveson 27 At Home Somerset, Bath
Joseph Eveson 1 Surrey Christchurch
Susan Beale Wife's mother 65 formerly laundress Bath
I never found this family (Old Joseph + Eliza) again - young Joseph must be somewhere at age 11 in 1861. In 1871 I found young Joseph married.

It looks as though Eliza has re-married to a John Benham in 1855.
Look for Joseph Jas Benham in 1861.
I think that's him.

Really!!!!
This marriage then?
Marriages Dec 1855
BENHAM John St Geo S. 1d 161
EVESON Eliza St Geo Southk 1d 161
I looked on FreeBMD to get that, but do you have somewhere you can look at a more detailed transcript of the marriages?
How did you make the connection?

Yes,that's the one. It's on the London Marriages and Banns on A*try.
Nov 25,1855 Parish Church of St George the Martyr Southwark
John Benham widower Bricklayer of Wellington Place Friar Street. Father John Benham (carpenter).
to
Eliza Eveson widow of same address. Father John Beal (mason).
Both of full age. Witnesses were: Wm Stead??? and Prudence? D Dunn
It looks as though Eliza may have died Dec. Qtr 1871.
John Benham marries again in 1877 to a Martha Masters.
