HI
I have seen a thread on here from back in 2005 in reference to Major Rutherford and Jacob Kilgour. Is there anyone that can help me with their parentage (these people were my Grandfather and great Uncle). I am typing this from work, so if my memory serves me correctly, I think it was their Mother who married again and took on some step children from her second marriage.
This is why "Rutherford" which was their mothers maiden name ran through in my family......
Just wodnering if there is anyone out there who can shed some more light on my Grandad and great Uncle.

Hi and many thanks for the response,
Again I am at work, so the information I posted yesterday remains the same, but I suppose I am trying to find out more about my grandad (Jacob or "Jakie") as he was known as.
I am afraid there are only 4 male Kilgour's left in my family, and we are all over the age of 35 and under the age of 70, so the information that we can get is limited. If my memory serves me correctly as well, as I said my Grandad's mother married again, so it all becomes a bit "muddy" and it's before she married again, I am trying to look into.
Thanks for all of your response's

Mary Jane Rutherford (my great grandmother) married James Kilgour in 1871 when she was 16 and he 26. They were both living in Albion Street, Jarrow. On their marriage certificate it states James father is Samuel Kilgour, shoemaker. They had 4 children, James, b abt 1872 in Jarrow, Andrew b abt 1873 in Scotland, Margaret b abt 1875 in Scotland( she marries Thomas Hymers) and Jacob b abt 1877 in Jarrow. James her husband dies in November 1876 when she is pregnant with Jacob. They lived at 33 Potter Street, Jarrow when he dies at the age of 33. She then marries David Rodger in 1881 and they went on to have possibly 5 children, not sure about that could be 4. One of those children Ann Lyle Rodger is my grandmother. June

Hi June!
Wow, you have found out so much, fascinating!
I think Jacob, born abt 1877 is my great grandfather, as I believe his son(s) were Major Rutherford Kilgour and Jacob George Kilgour (my Dad's dad).
Samuel Kilgour would be my Great great grandfather and I would assume then, that he is the connection where the move from Scotland to Newcastle took place!!!

On a side note....my grandmother used to love watching Tom Kilgour read the evening news from Newcastle, she said he looked just like her half brother. Would he be related directly to you or was he related to one of Mary Jane other sons. June
