Hi,
Can anyone give me an approximate date for the photograph. The strongest piece of evidence is the age of the man whose dates are (1878-1956). I have looked at it too many times to trust my own judgement.
Thanks,
-
Not much to date, vero, could we see the whole thing please including the outer edges?
Cheers,
China

It is of course a scan. It has no edges and is one side a postcard. I should really scan the back too.
The strongest clue, of course, is the birth date of the man in the photo which is 1878. If I knew the age of the man I would know the date of the photo.
Thanks,
-
Postcard? Bingo :D ....after 1900. Could we see the back, it's a good clue.

Well I know the man was born in 1878.
He must be at least 40; therefore the photo is after 1918 and he is under 70 so before 1948. What age is the man?

I think I can see one very small glimpse of the corner at the upper left....the image seems to go to the very edge of the card so I think that would put it before 1918...I don't have my notes with me so not sure, but I think they started doing a white border around the edges to save ink during the war.

Thanks chinakay.
I have also asked about the age of the man and most people age him in his mid 50s. Given that he was born in 1878 that would place the picture circa. 1933. I don't think we are going to get nearer than that with the evidence available.
