Title: Lookup for Bramley
Post by: sandral on Monday 05 March 12 11:56 GMT (UK)
Does anyone have access to the parish records for Bramley.  I am looking for a death of Hannah Weston who died after 1838 (birth of last child) and was not on 41 census with husband and children.  Her husband was William and was a woolcomber.  Their first child Elizabeth was born in Bramley 1828ish.  Any help would be most appreciated.

As William and the children were at Bramley in 1841 and that came under the Bradford District, there is a reasonable chance that Hannah's death was March qtr 1841 Bradford volume 23 page 79.

Just to say there's nothing at Bramley, St Peter.  At least it's an elimination.  :-\

Nor is there anything on National Burial Index.  And the only death of Hannah Weston in the West Riding between September quarter 1837 and December quarter 1841 is the one that SandraAust came up with in Bradford - BUT Bramley is Leeds, isn't it?

Oops I might have jumped the gun!

1841 census has William WESTON a wool comber living in the town/village of Wapping, Parish of Bradford, Hundred of Morley with children Elizabeth, William, Sarah and Margaret. Is that the correct family?

And there's nothing on my Leeds Indexers' burials CD, but there might be updates as I've had this CD for a few years now.

SandraAust - Ah, that explains the Bradford registration district then!  ;)

The family in Bradford is 6 miles from Bramley?
I would say Drighlington is where that family hails from.

Assuming that SandraAust has found the correct family in 1841, then only Elizabeth is born in County.

Two baptisms at St Peter, Bradford:

11 April 1828 - Louisa, daughter of William and Hannah Weston - Comber.  Born 13 February 1828
21 November 1830 - Elizabeth, dauughter of William and Hannah Weston - Comber

Wow you people are fantastic.  Family actually came from Leicester and William moved back to Leicester by 1851.  His second wife was Maria and there is a child who appears in Leicester with them name of Priscilla (Kind) Weston.  She was 9 in 1851 and she also was born in Bramley.  So I am assuming that William married Maria (or maybe not) in Bramley.  Priscilla married in Leicester using the name Kind.

I can't readily see any marriage for William Weston and Maria which would fit in with the 1851 census entries:

William born Leicester
Maria born Leicester
Elizabeth born Bradford
William born Leicester
Margaret born Leicester
Priscilla born Bramley
Ann born Leicester

There are a number of marriages between 1841 and 1851 with William Weston and Maria ?? appearing on the same page, but none of them are in Yorkshire and none of them are in Leicestershire  ::)  Nor is there a birth registration for Priscilla Weston in 1842  :'(  BUT there is a registration for Priscilla Kind in Leeds - September quarter 1841, Leeds 23, page 361  ;D ;D

I can't see any marriage for Maria Kind between 1841 and 1851.  I also looked for a baptism for Priscilla, and nothing BUT there is a baptism at St Peter, Bradford for an Amelia Kind, daughter of Charles and Maria Kind (Charles is a Woolcomber of Bradford) on 14 June 1837, born 17 May 1837.  And there is a death registration for Charles Kind in Bradford, 23 page 63 in June quarter 1840.

Amelia's death is registered in Bradford, 23, page 73, in September quarter 1837.

Thank you for the info.  I had noticed the Charles Kind in Bradford connection - when Priscilla married she gave her father as Charles Kind woolcomber.   I have never found a likely marriage for Maria (Kind) and William Weston - they didn't marry in Leicester and there is a chance they never married but I can't see why not.   They had a child Ann in Leicester baptised with both of them as parents using the name Weston.  However, there was another child appearing in 1861 census, Teresa, who married in Leicester using the name Kind and gave her father as William Kind!! Priscilla was her witness.  That may have indicated that Maria and William were not married and the child had to use the mother's name on the birth.

William and Hannah married in Leicester in 1828 so the two baptisms found would be their children.

I always thought there may have been other child(ren) along with Elizabeth in Yorkshire - so you have given me more information than I had expected.   Many thanks for your help and interest.  Much appreciated.

Hi sandral,
Can I just confirm that your Priscilla Kind married John Cooper at Leicester in 1858?  I'm about to order the marriage certificate this week and wondered if they are the same people you are looking into.
