The paint.net website looks very annoying to download from as it keeps trying to get you to install a download manager.
I'd get it from http://www.filehippo.com/download_paint.net/ - click on download latest version on the top right and if it doesn't start straight away click on 'If not then please click this link'

No problem. The other websites are rubbish.

I`ve just found Paint Net on my PC. W8.1.  No idea how it got there, but I can`t understand any of it, and it doesn`t seem to work except for simple things like rotating images.

Should I get rid, or persevere.
I used to have Photoshop on my old XP, but when the PC died it went with it as well.

Any suggestions for a simple alternative.  I must admit I really can`t understand most of the words used in any of them  ???

Try "Gimp" I know some people have used it on the Photo Restoration Board to great success...although I haven't used it...I've heard people say that is easy to use....there are also YouTube videos on How to use it and it's a free download.

Thanks for suggestion.
I have also got Gimp.    I`m sure they are both easy to use, but my problem is that I just can`t make sense of the terms used. Layer masks, bezier curves, floating logo, etc  . ::)

This is baffling  ;D
A GIMP Image Pipe allows you to spray out series of full color pixmaps. To make it more flexible, the order the images are painted onto the canvas can depend on direction, angle, speed, or other factors.

What on earth do these mean. Remove red eye from photos is one I do get, but my simple programmes can do that.

What I can`t find is how to cut part of one photo and insert into another. Simple "copy and paste"

I'm useless with graphics packages.... I use Paint.net and it's just great.  Does all the simple stuff that simpletons would wish to do with Photoshop, without the overhead/faffery.

I generally use it just to crop, resize, tidy up, combine images.
