Post by: charlie2001 on Friday 02 March 12 11:45 GMT (UK)
Hi, I'm looking for info about a Christiana Maria Delahay 1845 - 1917, married William Morgan ( born 1844 ) in 1866 madley.
her father was James labourer, from madley. Witness at the wedding was a Margaret Delahay. I've found bits and pieces of info of the Delahay family around about but no definate links.
can anybody help please.  Charlie

thanks for the info, looks good, the 1845 date of birth I took from burial info Jan 1917 aged 71.
Delahay is frequently mispelled, also Christiana sometimes as 2 n's.
James Davies was the other witness at William and Christiannas' wedding. Son Arthur baptised at madley 26-04-1867

thanks dave for the extra newspaper details. I now feel more certain that the James recorded on the 1841 census at godway farm is Christianna's father. Age on the census maybe ought to be 26 not 20, burial info is perhaps more accurate, buried 28 nov 1852 at Blakemere aged 38.  Also add Ann Catharine Delahay 1853 to 1854 buried at Blakemere 4 jun 1854, sister to Christianna and Margaret I think.

I am not sure what you are saying here Charlie.

1)
Is your starting point for the Delahays, SARAH ANN c 1869?
Do you have her Birth Cert?
If not, her Mother is either Christianna or Margaret (I would opt for Margaret)

2)
Are you saying you have a Death Cert for a JAMES Delahay 1852 age 38 (so Birth c 1814)?
But in the 1851 Census James is born c 1807, a big gap there.

3)
And are you think that the James above is the one born c 1821 to JOHN/ANN?
Dates just dont add up to me.

Margaret Augusta and Christianna Maria were both Chrsitened the same day.

hi  from madley marriages ( Hereford records office )
27-05-1888 George Jones 29 of lulham father George Jones
married Sarah Ann Delahay 19 of woodyatts field father unknown.
From Blakemere burials ( Hereford records office )
28-11-1852 James Delahay of woodyatts field madley aged 38
A late christening for Christianna I think. 1845 birthdate from
burial record tallys with the 1851 census.
From Madley burials ( Hereford records office )
13-01-1917 Christiana Morgan seabourne cottage aged 71
The range of birthdates for James is big, but as yet no baptism or marriage information.

Hi,

I too have Delahay in Blakemere & Staunton.  I have a James born c 1796 who marries a Theodocia Llewellyn (census's visable marriage births etc not so far).  They have my ancestor Jane Delahay shown as 7 on the 1851 census but she must have been born in 1841 as she marries William Pember in 1856.  Other siblings John 1836, Ann 1837, George 1840, & Mary 1842.  Have any of these people come up in your research at all.

PS this is my fathers maternal line.  His DNA has just come back as type K Levantine i.e. Ashkenazi Jew or Palestinian.  Looks like I've got a long way to go to find the link!
Many Thanks

Hi.
Unsure if this is still active but I have delahay as descendants on my grandmothers side.

Margaret Ann Delahay m. Thomas Baylis
These are my nan’s great grandparents

Mother is Ann Davis
Father is James Delahay

James father was John Delahay

Ann’s father was John Davis

Are these are resemblance to what you may have found?
