Margaret STEWART was born in 1828 in Callander, Perthshire, Scotland., was christened on 27 Jan 1828 in Callander, Perth, Scotland, and was buried on 11 Nov 1909 in Bochastle, Callander, Perth, Scotland.

Events in her life were:

• Census: 1881. Govan, Lanark, Scotland.

Margaret married Hugh BURNS, son of Thomas BURNS and Janet DALRYMPLE. Hugh was born in 1825 in Closeburn, Dumfries, Scotland., died on 22 Jun 1897 in Callander, Perthshire, Scotland. at age 72, and was buried on 26 Jun 1897 in Callander, Perthshire, Scotland.

Could they have moved out of the area?

Hi Jamjar,     Thomas Janet & their family, including Hugh, appear at Clyde Street, Carluke in 1841 census. In 1851 only Thomas Janet & their grandaughter appear at this address.
I am interested to know when Janet died & any further info. on her parents Charles Dalrymple & Sarah McCall.
Charles was a schoolmaster. He & Sarah were married on 10 Feb 1786 in Closeburn, Dumfries

Hi I am also trying to find more information about Janet.   What I can say is that I have her husband Thomas Burns death registration document and it states he was a widower of Janet when he died 13 September 1874 at Clyde st Carluke.   In both 1861 and 1871 he appears as Widower so we are looking for Janet's death between 1851-1861 at Clyde st.

Regards

Hi Steve,
The most recent info I have is that Janet was alive at the time of daughter Sarah's death on 22 July 1856 but dead at the time of son Patrick's death on 22 October 1859, according to their death certificates.

Hi Steve Alexander,
I wonder if you have any info on Janet Dalrymple's parents? Particularly date & place of death.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Geoff

I am afraid I have no more than has already been mentioned - date of marriage and Charles a schoolmaster.  I have been in touch with Lanarkshire Family History Society to try and find death registration for Janet but no result so far.  Thomas Burns death was registered  by Agnes McPake  and she did not enter any details for his parents.  Agnes being Thomas's daughter Catherine's daughter (Agnes Connolly).

The guy at LFHS queried where I got marriage for Thomas Burns & Janet Dalrymple (4 Feb 1814 Closeburn) he says it is not in R.C. marriage index.  I can not find a source and do not remember, any ideas?

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,
I have been through my files and have no recorded source for the marriage of my GGG Grandparents Thomas Burns and Janet Dalrymple on 4 Feb 1814 at Closeburn. Nor do I have a recorded source for the birth of  their two eldest children;
Catherine Burns 30 May 1815 at Closeburn
Michael Burns 6 Jan 1818 at Closeburn
I have a source for their other seven children.
Charles Dalrymple and Sarah McCall were married 10 Feb 1786 Closeburn OPR 816/0010 0146
Their children:
Margaret Dalrymple  9 Jul 1786 Closeburn
Janet 20 Sep 1788 Closeburn
Charles 8 Oct 1791
Sarah about 1806/7, but this does not tie in with death of a Charles Dalrymple 29 May 1802 Closeburn, Dumbreck OPR 816/00 0010 0183.  Sarah died 6 Feb 1865, aged 58, Closeburn Stat Death 81600 0002.
I have quite a lot of info on the family.
eg Thomas & Janet,s son Michael Burns ,died 3 May 1888, leaving a will with bequests to his extended family. Their son Hugh Burns, died 22 June 1897 leaving portraits of his mother Janet and Grandfather Charles in his will.  Geoff

Hi Geoff

Well thanks for looking.  I do not doubt that it is right but it would be nice to know where it came from.

I got this from LFHS ...
The surviving Burns/Dalrymple RC Baptisms are

no birth date   09/09/1826   BURNS   GEORGE   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   DUMFRIES, ST ANDREW'S

05/02/1829   01/03/1829   BURNS   JANE   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   KIRKCONNEL, ST CONAL

17/07/1831   28/09/1831   BURNS   PATRICK   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   DUMFRIES, ST ANDREW'S

07/10/1833   20/10/1833   BURNS   CHARLES   -   THOMAS BURNS/JANET DALRYMPLE   at   DUMFRIES, ST ANDREW'S

Carherine Burns is my wife's 2nd great grandmother and I have no baptism or source for date of birth (30 May 1815) although I do have her death registration document.

Do you use Ancestry.com?  I have my tree there.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve.
I also have a note of the baptisms of
Thomas Burns 16 Jul 1820 St Andrews RC, Dumfries
Sarah Burns 15 Sep 1822       Ditto
Hugh Burns  23 Aug 1824       Ditto
In the above three cases the parents were noted as Thomas Burns & Janet Burns and not Janet Dalrymple.
Catherine Burns was also my GG Grandmother my line continuing through her daughter Agnes Conoly.
My data is all on RootsMagic
Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Geoff

Do you publish your tree online or just use software locally with RootsMagic?

I have Hugh and his marriage to Margaret Stewart, Census details and burial 1897, but no baptism record thank you.
I have Sarah b 1826 but only because 1841 census says age 15 (or were there two Sarah's?).

I did not have Thomas.

Regards

Steve
