We are looking for the marriage of William and jane Lloyd who appear in the census of 1841 as living in the Hamlet of Manmoel Bedwelty
The census shows that they were born in a different county. The first two children were also born outside the county- Llangadock, Camarthanshire
Can you help?

do you have a birth cert for the youngest child to confirm mother's maiden name?
Mariah Lloyd june qtr 1839 Abergavenny vol 26 pg 50
There's a possible marriage in Llangadock 15/6/1821 for William Lloyd & Jane Roberts, but you need the cert to be sure.

You genius, thank you so much for that, i sent away for the birth certificate and it came today.....and yes the maiden name is Roberts. i have sent for the marriage certificate.
I was completely stuck but now feel that i can get somewhere
I have been having so much trouble with the Welsh place names but feel full f renewed vigor now!
Thank you again Squillery

the marriage was before civil registration, so you won't get a marriage cert as such. You could get a copy of the parish entry from the archives in Carmarthen

Thank you for the information, i have tried to look at the camarthan records but cant seem to manage. Is there a trick? or am I just being a bit thick!!!!
I have found a copy of a christening on 17th June 1794 in Talley for William son of Thomas Lloyd farmer?Esgernant, now called Esgairnant, but I am at a loss as to how to find out A, if its him or B, if I can find his date of birth or anything else about him... I am Stuck! Can you give me a bit of a push???
PS My husbands Aunt (nee Lloyd) is taking great interest in this investigation, she is 91 this year and is in Hospital in Oswestry (temporarily), I am relaying your responses, she is loving it!

using the IGI for research in most of Wales before 1813 is a bit of a problem. Some of the counties have few marriages and the baptisms are transcribed as if they were patronymic even when they weren't. So, for instance, John, the son of William Edwards, would be indexed as John Williams & show his father as William Edwards. Unless you know in which parish the person was baptised, you'll struggle to dinf them as you need to search an IGI batch by first name and approx year.
Also, you have the possibility that the family was non-conformist and so there is no parish baptism to be found. The existence of a parish marriage is no clue to their denomination as all marriages had to take place in the parish church to be legal after Hardwicke's Marriage Act, the only exceptions being Quakers & Jews. And not all denominations practise infant baptism.
FreeReg has some coverage of parish records for Carmarthenshire & doesn't use the patronymic form. I'm sorry I can't remember if you have a parish of birth for William. Do you have a reason for thinking he was born in Talley? The marriage was in Llangadock, wasn't it? Do you have a copy of the parish entry to see if the names of witnesses are family members?

Hello Squillery :)
Is this the right family in 1841?
Ebbw Vale Ironworks, Tredegar, Bedwellty
William Lloyd age 40 Taylor
Jane age 35
Thomas age 20
William age 10
David age 8 Born County
Ann age 6 Born County
Robert age 4 Born County
Maria age 2 Born County
HO107 Piece 750 Book 8 ED 18 Folio 26 Page 18
Note adult (over 15) ages rounded down to nearest 5 years.
There were Lloyd families in Llangadog: Danyrallt, Glansevin, and Madinam, so it may be worth checking the National Library pre-1858 wills:

If Mariah's birth certificate proves that Jane's maiden name was Roberts, You can obtain a copy of the pre-1837 marriage certificate from Carmarthen Archives, as per Osprey's link.
Best Wishes
