Post by: Boxer on Saturday 25 February 12 09:57 GMT (UK)
Does anyone  have any information about Claude House, Easington. It was used as a  home for teachers during the 1911 census. It was at the top of Claude Street.
any information would be great. Thank you.

It is actually Claude Terrace/Street, East Murton, not Easington, Maude House is just a terraced house with 6 rooms  see http://g.co/maps/v3eay Claude House is  the corner house.
You can see Claude Terrace at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=439590,547315 on the 1920 map near the school.
In the 1914 Durham Directory George Greenwell, school attendance officer, is living at Wyngate House, which is 1 Claude St., Murton.

The house on the corner is 6 Claude Terrace Murton in the census the house before Claude House is No 5, (unoccupied) so Claude House is the house on the corner

If you go to http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm and enter the coordinates 439552, 547315 in to search it will centre the map on 6 Claude Terrace, Murton

The house before Claude House, No.5, is Winchester House, the one with the name plate on the wall. So you have got a photograph of Claude House  :)
Just to add that 4 Claude Street is Schedule 338, then No. 5 "Family Removed", then Claude House is Schedule 339.
