I know what Thomas did for a living. I don't need that information many thanks. He was a joiner by the by which is a familty tradition. He died in an accidental fall.

I am asking who was Thomas Attenborough wife - her maiden name in particular.

Yes I realize that, but you did say ' maybe her name was Eliza'  So as much information you can give the better.   What makes you think her name was Eliza?
When & where were their children born??

Eliza is the Mothers name on Thomas Jnrs Australian Death Reg 1876, Victoria, Age 44.

There are Trees with lots of inconsistancies on Anc. If Thomas c 1832 died in Victoria 1876, I dont know how he could appear on 1881/1891/1901 census data they have.
As Thomas Married Annie LUCKETT and a Child Walter James was born c 1870, Melbourne, then they were in Australia by then!!!

Now Abode is Long Stairs on the Christenings of Caroline/Thomas in St Marys, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire to THOMAS/ELIZA with Occp as Framesmith.

1841 Census
Long Stairs,
St Mary, Nottinghamshire
HO107/869/8/St Mary
James LINDLEY, 35, Lace Maker
Eliza, 30, Lace Worker
Caroline Attenborough, 11
THOMAS Attenborough, 9
All born in County

The Surname is hard to read though.

Looks to me like Thomas Snr has Died and Eliza remarried.
They may have emigrated post 1841. There is no Attenborough/Luckier Marriage I can find in England.

I would actually purchase the Death Cert if I was you as it should contain further info not on the Index.

Hello.... :)

I agree with what has been said in that we need as much information as you can supply and the death certificate may help with that.
These are a few observations......

The information given on reply 4 by Trish:  I can't see a remarriage for Eliza to James Lindley.

Caroline is here as a lodger in 1851 =  HO107/Piece 2133/Folio: 148/ Page 7...... she says born Leicestershire.

There is a marriage for Caroline Attenborough to William Harrison Whitehead - Nottingham St Mary, 13th Aug 1860

They are here in 1861 - RG 9/Piece 2464/Folio 41/Page 15 - Short Stairs, Nottingham St Mary..... born Nottingham.

So I don't think this is the right family.

Great Great Great Grandfather THOMAS ATTENBOROUGH (born 26 September 1792, Beeston - died 5 September 1858)

Then I think it looks likely that this might be the family......

1851 - HO107/ Piece 2127/ Folio 79/ Page 12 - Beeston, Nottinghamshire

Thomas Attenborough,    57 - Ag Lab, born Beeston
Ann Attenborough ,47 - born Bulwell
Thos Attenborough ,20 - Lace Maker, born Beeston
Frank Attenborough ,18
Edmund Attenborough ,16
Henry Attenborough ,14
Sarah Attenborough ,10
William Attenborough ,4 ................All children born Beeston
~ ~ ~

Children all baptised  - BEESTON St John the Baptist - parents Thomas & Anne ATTENBOROUGH - fathers occupation: Twistmaker.

Frank - baptism 4th September 1834
Edmond - baptism 4th September 1834
MARY - born 24th May 1827 - baptism 10th July 1836
THOMAS - born 26th August 1829 - baptism 10th July 1836
Frank - born 26th July 1832 - baptism 10th July 1836
Edmund - born 29th March 1834 - baptism 10th July 1836
Henry - born 20th June 1836 - baptism 10th July 1836

There is no marriage for a Thomas Attenborough or variants to an Eliza in the Nottinghamshire FHS marriage index.

The only Thomas to an Ann in the right time frame is this one.....

Nottingham St Mary - 8th January 1832 - Thomas Attenborough & Ann Sibert

So the puzzle is, who is the real mother of Thomas & Mary....  ???

Hi Dizzie,
I typed all that up also and then discarded them as the Thomas that goes to Australias Parents.
"I agree to disagree with you" ;)

Thomas c 1829/30 is still in Lincs in 1891, Unm, Lace Hand, with Sister Mary c 1828, Unm. Both born Beeston.

1871 his is with Mother ANN born c 1803 Bulwell, Notts and Sister Mary.
1881 still with Ann/Mary and Unm under Thos.
1901 he is still unm and in Lincs.

Re Lindley if you look at the image it could be anything, Beesley/Lesley etc.
I agree I cant find a Marriage either. They may never have Married.

Hi Trish  :)

I am working on the information that WildColonialGirl gave in that her GtX Grandfather was born in Beeston 1792 and died 1858 and I believe that to be the family I have given.

I can see the same family on the 1841 census and Thomas Attenborough gives his occupation as Joiner...... which is what was also said.
HO107 /piece 856 /folio 10/42 - page 26 - Market Street, Beeston, Nottinghamshire.

Ann is still in Beeston in 1861 with daughter Sarah and son William.....1861 - RG09 piece 2440 folio 52 page 3

I didn't look for Thomas after 1861.....  but someone has got the wrong Thomas then ? ::)

Fair enough Dizziefish.
I know you are an expert researcher. I apologise if I seemed to be a bit unfair.

From what I can see most Trees have it confused.
As you say WCG may have extra info from Certs and hopefully we will see what  she has when she comes back on-line.

There is a 1851 Census with a Thomas Attenborough born c 1833, St Mary, Nottingham, living in Paddington, Middlesex.
HO107/1467/824/20

There is a Thomas Attenborough c 1833, Age 21, as a Passenger on the "JEANNETTE" arrival date 16 January 1854, Melbourne.

...... no, you are not at all, I don't know everything and that's a thing I love about this site, people sharing info, giving a different perspective on what we find etc.

Hopefully with everyones input and WCG we will find the right Thomas, as from what you have said there are a few candidates  :-\
