Post by: Aussie33 on Saturday 25 February 12 05:52 GMT (UK)
My GGGGrandmother Susan FELTIS was buried in Ardrahan ,Co Galway on 15 Sep 1869. If there is a headstone, would someone be able to take a photo please?  And inscription, if any.
Thanks
Kerri

Hi Kerri,
I had a look around the Church of Ireland cemetery in Adrahan, there are several headstones dating back to 19th century, but most of these are illegible.
I didn't see one for your grandmother, but I'll try to find out if there is a separate written record of who is buried there.  Will post back here when I have more info.

Hi Joe
Thankyou for looking for my GGGGrandmother Susan FELTUS who was buried there in Ardrahan Cemetery in September 1869. She maybe buried with her son-in-law Jonathon NAYLOR (who married daughter Maria FELTUS) buried 20 Mar 1870,aged 50 & grandchild Henrietta Ellen NAYLOR buried 26 Mar 1869,aged 5-all buried Ardrahan.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
Kerri

I had another look on Monday.  I didn't see any NAYLOR or FELTUS.

I haven't given up though, there are about 50 more headstones which may be readable, though this could entail considerable effort.

I can ask around and see if anyone has a map or any additional details.  First, it might be helpful for me to know where you got your existing information about these burials?

Also - there are 10 to 20 headstones for families named TAYLOR there.  So just on the off-chance, consider whether there is any slim chance that Jonathon and Henrietta could have been TAYLOR rather than NAYLOR.  What do you think?

Hi Joe
Thankyou for your time & effort. I was trying to find Susan’s headstone as I needed to have some evidence that I had found the correct person. I was hoping that ,if there had been a headstone, that it would say wife of Francis, thereby confirming correct person. I had  found the burial of Susan (& of her son-in-law & grandchild) on Irish Records Extraction Database (on Ancestry database).

Another researcher recently found on rootsireland website the burial record, which records female FELTIS, with death date of 14 Sep 1869 in Co Galway, address Glenview,Salthill . In the notes on burial it says; “The deceased was the wife of Mr Francis FELTIS. This was taken from the Galway Express on Saturday 16th September 1869”

So with this above information, I can now confirm I have found the correct person, so there is now no need to continue the search of headstones, particularly as you have said that they are in poor condition.

Thanks again for your help-its greatly appreciated. Regarding NAYLOR- All the records say either NAILOR or NAYLOR-perhaps it was a later variation of TAYLOR.

Cheers
Kerri
