Joseph Cherry born in 1849 to Robert and Elizabeth Cherry, immigrated to the US around 1880. It is quite possible that he married before he left. His wife died in 1893 in Pennsylvania and they did have a son and possibly a daughter. On his son's death certificate it says that his mother's name was Maud? (Maud with a question mark) and that she was born in England. I would be quite grateful if you could find a marriage and departure documentation. Or if it can be found and the instructions for me to order it. Thanks - Dave

As a starter, Joseph's birth is registered as December quarter 1848 Durham ( Actual reference hard to read)
Following the census records, Joseph was with his parents up to the 1881 census. The name of his mum seems to change but I didn't go into details as that is not your main concern. However the dates and his siblings and dad tally so Joseph was still in England and unmarried in April 1881.

You are correct. I rechecked my notes and Joseph was still at home with his father and step mom. Robert was married to three different women.
I am trying to rule out a possible England marriage, if possible. Thanks

On his son's death certificate
What year was his son born?
Was he born in England or USA
-
His son Charles was born in 1884 in Pennsylvania.
-
Did Charles marry Clara Poorman in Ohio
-
No, he married Elizabeth Goundry in West Virginia on 8 March 1919.
-
There is no English marriage that fits between 1881-1884/6

Would the above marriage cert have his mothers name and maiden name shown?
-
That is their marriage certificate but it does not have his mother's name or any parents listed. thanks - Dave
