Going by the shape and form of the cap badge it looks like one of the light infantry regiments. Would it be possible for you to post a better, high res' image just of the cap badge as it is had to say which one it could be whilst it is like this. As an aside to the badge he has a medal ribbon up and his rank is that of a sergeant. What was his name as this may help to confirm which regiment it could  be as well.

 hi OR,
thanks for the reply,
unfortunately, i don't have the original, so can't alter the res. ( or at least i don't know how to without it)
my grandfather was a segeant ( alfred watson)in the scottish rifles around this time, so if as you say it is a light infantry regt. it won't be him, but worth a try.
thanks again

Hi

The cap badge could be a Fusilier Regt.
